Neither NSA/ANSI 42 or 53 standard removes estrogen (this filter is certified for both), you would need a filter that is NSF/ANSI 401 certified; as far as I can find there is no filter for the Samsung (or any other refrigerator) with that certification, you would need a separate filtration solution for your entire water supply. The exact procedure I follow is:1. Turn off ice maker (to prevent water from running into it)2. Change water filter. It is not necessary to turn water off first, but be careful as there will be water in the filter you remove.3. With a pitcher collect water from the door until the water is clear and appears drinkable (maybe 2-3 gallons typically).4. Turn ice maker back on.5. Reset water filter light. **Q: my current filter says haf-sin/xme and da29-00020a/b. is this a compatible replacement?** A: Yes! My filter says the same thing. I went to lowe's and asked about it, they said its the same exact filter they just changed the last letter just to update it.
