The Good Old Days
An insightful book that is a must read for GM car buffs.

Good but now outdated.
It's a good book, some great photos. But it was published in 1999 so it predates the end of Olds, Pontiac and Saturn. And it barely mentions GM's light truck business which was huge, and basically carried the company through the 80's, 90's and 00's.

Nice pictures and good history book
Nice picture book. Quite surprised to find out that Billy Durant almost bought Ford.

Lacking in Scope
I rate it "Just O.K." Based on the its size, and length of time that GM has been around, I think the content is sparse.

General Motors is a companion title to the similar photographic histories on Ford and Chrysler, also published in the "Images of Motoring" series. These little photographic histories are 127 pages long, with every page filled with archival black and white photos. General Motors was such an economic and industrial juggernaut that a book like this couldn't begin to do more than just give the most superficial look at its history. GM built cars, trucks, buses, trains, ships, airplanes, earth moving equipment, home appliances, and millions of kinds of parts in factories on 6 continents. The photos that appear here are interesting and the captions informative. People wishing an in depth history of GM should look elsewhere but the generalist auto fan will find a lof of interest in the photos contained in this little volume. It's a worthwhile book at a very reasonable, affordable price. I enjoyed it along with its companion volumes on Chrysler and Ford.
