The BFG Review: An amazingly fun adventure! - Roald Dahl's The BFG is a delightful story about Sophie and the Giant as they embark on the most splendiferous adventure, filled with giggles and heartwarming friendship! Even though there are a few goosebump-inducing moments when Sophie learns about those not-so-friendly giants, kindness always shines through. Get ready for a whirlwind of humor, bravery, and the most unlikely of friendships where everyone learns to appreciate each other's quirks and differences—especially when the BFG points out how wonderfully silly human behavior can be! It's a read that's sure to fill young hearts with compassion, empathy, and a whole lot of love. Review: Great story to motivate grumpy readers - My daughter unfortunately hates reading most chapter books, but we had success with The BFG! She really enjoyed it. We watched the movie together afterward and discussed all the things we had imagined differently than the movie interpretation. One of our best book reading experiences so far.

Among the New Classics for Young Adults and Us Old Adults as well!
This is a classic - I enjoyed the books of Roald Dahl in grade school nearly 30 years ago. With the upcoming movie I wanted to re-read the book and let my wife read it as well. We both enjoyed it already. Its not a long read ;-) As for this particular print of the book - the binding was of good quality - 2 full read-throughs and barely any "wrinkling" of the spine --- NO pages falling out as I have heard of on other prints of Dahl's books. The font was easily readable, large enough for ease of reading by children and adults alike. Really appreciate the price - it was approximately $5 when I purchased this (it was on sale) Please continue to support the "new classics" like the BFG and other great Dahl stories. He has MANY great books besides Charlie and the Chocolate Factory In fact, "Danny the Champion of the World" and "The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and Six More" should be required reading for 5th - 7th graders. They present wonderful stories grounded in more reality than other Dahl books, but have fantastic story telling that also can reiterate good moral choices to young readers.

Great book!
Wonderful book! My daughter is 8, going into third grade, and am exceptional reader. We got in the car to drive to my mom's and I handed this to her to read on the way. When we were pulling into my mom's driveway and hour later she was just finishing it.

Fulfilled our need
This was one of my favorite stories as a child. We were looking for a copy of the story to use for a speech.

Excellent
I loved this. For that matter, I think I must rate it second among my favorite books from Roald Dahl, just behind The Witches. Now I say this being very much aware of who the man has been reported to be. My take on that is there are probably precious few books I would have ever read because the person harbored racist or whatever views. Absolute zero about what Dahl has done or what has been reported about him can stop me from reading him. The man just has it. Whatever it is, that has locked millions of people into reading his work. I am happy to be among them. I found the BFG to be a very engaging and amusing personality so I will go back to rereading about this literal giant of a character time and time again. Furthermore, I will never stop until I have consumed all of Roal Dahl’s books.

Nous entrons dans un univers enfantin mais très poétique. Une bonne morale pour ce livre plein d'émotions. La fille de Roald Dahl voyait son père dans le personnage du bon gros géant

This is the story of a little girl who meets the Big Friendly Giant and together they are trying to stop the other ugly giants to eat more humans. When you look at the picture on the cover of the book „The BFG“ you see a giant with a little girl standing in his palm. The giant has big ears and a smile on his face. That’ s because the giant is called: The Big Friendly Giant. All the other existent nine giants are ugly and really dangerous. They are called by names like Bonecruncher, Childchewer, Flushlumpeater and other disgusting names. And what do these giants do? Of course eating human beans. They roam around the world trying to catch, „Human beans from Jersey is tasting of cardigans…Danes from Denmark is tasting ever so much of a dog…from Panama is tasting very strong of hats“, and so on you might think about the rest on your own. The story of the encounter of the orphan Sophie and the BFG begins when she wakes up in the witching hour. She looks out of her window and sees the Giant walking around in her street with a trumpet in his hand and from time to time placing the trumpet into an open windows and blowing it, but no sound comes out of it, because… But what the trumpet is good for, Sophie and you will find out when the friendly giant takes her with him into the land of the giants. Here she learns why the BFG is talking in such a strange manner, „What a spliffling whoopsy room we is in! It is so gigantuous I is needing bicirculers and telescoops…“, where the dreams come from, what snozzcumbers, frobscottle and whizzpoppers are and of course here she is talking with him about the bad behaviour of eating humans. „Humans have never done them any harm.“ But althoug the giant sometimes mixes up words and meanings, „What i mean and what I say is two different things“, he is more wise than Sophie thaught, „That is what the little piggy-wig is saying every day…I has never done any harm to the human bean so why whould he be eating me?“ The drawings in this book are by Sir Quentin Blake who illustrated many children books and of course the most of Roald Dahl (1916-1990). The welsh Author Dahl wrote besides the well known stories for children also a couple stories for adults always with an unexpected end. But back to the story of Sophie and the BFG. They want to stop the giants to eat more humans and therefore they need the help of the Queen. „Oh, please stop them.“
