It’s a 10 minute distraction for a child over 9. I bought this for my 6 year old (loves magnets, snap circuits, legos, etc). This was fun and worth the price at $17.00. He picks it up every once in a while but I wouldn’t say this is is a learning toy so much as an experimental toy- if that makes sense. **Q: Is the orbit of each planet accurate?** A: No! There is nothing even remotely accurate about this model. Save your $10, what a waste of money. **Q: Are the batteries secured with a screw or could a kid get to them?** A: The batteries are secured with a screw! **Q: What is the order to the steel posts?** A: No directions with this kit. You have to size them so they can rotate around each other. Had I known how frustrating this thing was I would have opted for a more expensive and slightly larger model. Hindsight is great. Otherwise, this is an excellent gift for young minds. Bought it for my grand daughter who is 5. She now knows the word ‘Magnet’ and its properties of “pulling” (attraction) and “pushing” (repulsion). She’ll learn the science behind magnets much later in life (no hurry), but she now knows “magnets” like she knows “cars” or “aeroplanes”.
