Do we need to buy monitor also along with the tapes

If you already have the sensor and mo it or, then no. If not, then yes. This is just a pack of tape, sized for kiddos. It is pricey, but convenient. When we ran out, we used duct tape just fine (though duct tape will leave residue on underwear if it goes through the wash accidentally).
