Embedded Systems: Introduction to Arm® Cortex™-M Microcontrollers , Fifth Edition

This is book is good for those who need to learn basic concept about programming and circuit in the micro controller field, I mean this book starts with a simple Digital design explanation, and then you will find a summary in electronic circuit but the most important is the way that this book explains the architecture of this micro controller and also explains the best way to program, I think this book is perfect for beginner and students who expects to know more about this specific micro controller architecture.

I bought this book to go along with Professor Valvano's wonderful course on edx.org, "UT.6.02x Embedded Systems - Shape the World". This book makes the concepts really clear for beginners and is written in a friendly style. It's probably one of the best introductions into the world of embedded systems for newcomers, students and hobbyists. Even though this is a bit pricey for Indian customers, the content makes it absolutely worthwhile. I want to than Professor Valvano for this great book and course.

But the software/firmware explanation is vague. We need to put extra effort or a good really good back ground. But the rest of the book is very good. I will buy also the next parts of this book. Because the next part looks like more detailed. The online projects are also helpful.

Using newer microcontrollers in the industry is pretty tough and this book makes it easier. I don't know what I would do without this.

*** DO NOT BUY THE KINDLE VERSION, BUY A BOUND COPY *** Assuming that you have made the decision to purchase, at least get bound copy. The content of the book is not bad. I got through three first 3 chapters and hated it because I couldn't understand what was going on, then I picked up the bound copy and figured out why. The pages are really wide so they don't fit in a kindle page correctly and the examples are all smooshed together making the examples very discontinuous. After figuring this out purchasing the bound copy, the content is only so so. It doesn't show examples from start for finish, it only seams to show examples bits of assembly code. If you have written assembly before, then I sure it would be fine because you would understand how to implement the code. However, it does show the bits of code next to a C version of the code which helps. *** Update *** This book was actually written to compliment the authors class so if you look, you can find their website which does have a lot of useful material. The additional material is organized well and tell which chapters in the book it's complimenting.

Excellent introduction. There is a lot of sample code including Assembly and C. You will be guaranteed to learn a lot if you put in the time.

The book helped me understand more assembly language programming environment especially Keil had not seen before, the book also presents practical examples and teaching. I recommend the book is very good.

The glue on the side of the book is not of the greatest quality, but the content is awesome.

Comprei esse livro pensando em economizar tempo e dinheiro(comparado a espera de comprar na amazon.com ou em outros sites nacionais)... Infelizmente a edição que recebi foi a quarta edição, quando claramente a edição anunciada é a quinta, vide foto e ISBN-10: 1477508996 ISBN-13: 978-1477508992 . Acredito bastante na marca AMAZON tenho certeza que o serviço deve seguir o padrão de qualidade da empresa americana no futuro!

Great Learning and Projects

This book is a great introduction to microcontrollers. I particularly like it as there is a good accompanying website, and now a free online course on edx.org called "Embedded Systems - Shape the World" that follows the book closely. If you are used to using the arduino then that board is great at getting started because it allows a lot to be done relatively easily as a lot of details are hidden. This book goes into a lot more of the details. This is good if you are generally interested in understanding these details or you want to have more control over programming a chip, and you want to be able to do it more efficiently. It is very practically focussed which I like as I find that it helps me to understand the material better. All the material uses the Texas Instruments TM4C123 series which uses an M4 Arm processor. I guess as part of the practical focus it helps to focus on one chip as more practical details can be covered more effectively. You can buy an evaluation board containing the chip directly from TI and it is also good value. While the book doesn't cover other chips such as the Atmel series which is what is used in the Arduino I believe that a lot of the ideas transfer over, particularly as you can use the C programming language in both. Obviously details about how to directly address registers etc will be different. When you put the whole package together: book, free course and website this is a great way to learn about microcontrollers and great value. The course is running from early Feb 2014 to mid May. I am not sure about it's availability beyond this time frame.

Ottimo libro, lo si legge facilmente, chiara l'espressione e facile da seguire. Lo consiglio a tutti coloro che vogliono approcciarsi alla tecnologia ARM.

Ich nutze dieses Buch um mein Studienfach Computertechnik zu ergänzen (der Name des Fachs hat den Inhalt der Vorlesung leider verfehlt). Es ist sehr verständlich geschrieben, gibt für den ders braucht noch eine Enführung in C, es beinhaltet auch Asssembler. Das Buch basiert auf einem recht erschwinglichem Microcontroller der Firma Texas Instruments. Daher kann man es sich auch nur aus reiner Neugier zulegen. Die Quellcodes sind alle online zugänglich und frei verfügbar. Es wird sogar ein Einblick in Zustandsautomaten gegeben, was ich selbst nur aus der Digitaltechnik kenne. Zudem erhält man auch Informationen über den Entwicklungszyklus eines Embedded Systems. Das Buch ist Randvoll mit Interessanten Dingen, ich kann es nur empfehlen. Und als geübter C-Anwender kann man auch mal was überspringen.
