Posture Fit vs. Lumbar Got this one (with posture fit) for my home office. I have an identical one with lumbar support at my work office. I like to feel the support on my back. I feel the lumbar more than the posture fit. BUT, the lumbar support is felt all across the lower back, while posture fit is designed to keep your spine straight. I came across a report from a study comparing lumbar vs. posture fit using 80+ participants. The study found that posture fit improved their spine in most cases on most measurements. I am generally skeptical of studies like these, but after using posture fit for a couple of weeks I don't get that numb feeling in my back after sitting for a long time. So I like it more than lumbar. The caveat seems to be - you need to push your butt as far as you can against the back of the chair (the proper way of sitting). If you tend to sit on your lower back with your butt on the rim of the chair - no lumbar or posture fit will help you. It is not too hard to correct the posture, but it's definitely a conscious effort. Just an FYI. Construction of the Chair The chair is very sturdy and quiet when turn around, etc. You can definitely tell that it's top quality. Should last a very long time based on the feel of it and the history of Aerons. It has the standard Aeron adjustment features. Its mesh material is simply the best that I've tried. It's not cuddly like leather, but feels good and airs well, so you never have a sweaty back, etc. My Conclusion I honestly don't know how an office chair can get any better for my requirements: comfortable, good for back, sturdy, and quiet. The only thing that could improve it is a massager of the back (ok, I am kidding). Got it for $660 in "used - like new" condition. Perfect for the price.

My job is in engineering, so I spend a lot of time at my desk in front of my computer. The various offices I have worked in had a majority of chairs being the Aeron, but I had a hard time justifying the cost of buying the chair for own use at home. $800+ is a lot to spend on a chair. After a few years of going through a few different chairs, I'm happy I bit the bullet and purchased one of these. Not everyone will find these chairs comfortable. It's always a matter of personal preference, but the comfort this chair provides is well worth the price. It's not leather, doesn't look like an executive chair, but after going through a few of those chairs (at $200 - 300 a piece) over the past few years, the cost added up and I could have bought an Aeron. The seat mesh doesn't support like memory foam does, but the chair as a whole is very supportive and I can sit for hours without any issues. Other chairs I would eventually get cramps in my legs or lower back, but I never experienced that with the Aeron, even after 10 hour workdays and then going home to this chair to work for a few hours more. The hardest thing to swallow is the initial price, but the warranty is good (although I haven't had to use it) and the chair is a complete workhorse. In the most recent office that I have worked in, I haven't seen any Aeron chairs replaced or worn out. The cheaper chairs only last two years or so before headed to the dumpster. I'm pretty sure there are plenty of Aeron chairs in my current office that are over a decade old. If you are buying a new computer chair every two or three years at a few hundred a chair, this will eventually pay for itself without your legs or back paying for it.

Very comfortable chair, aesthetically pleasing, and solidly built. Can adjust multiple settings - seat height, armrests height/position, lumbar (PostureFit) support, recline resistance, seat tilt). Easy to assemble - comes with all required tools (basically, all you have to do is attach the back to the base via 4 screws, and connect the cable that adjusts the PostureFit support - takes maybe 15 minutes or so). Make sure the chair is properly adjusted - I've read other reviews from people complaining that the circulation to their thighs was cut off by this chair, and I think this would only happen if they have the chair height too high and their feet are dangling. Major con is the price - this chair is expensive. Herman Miller occasionally runs sales - they just had a 15 percent off pre-Christmas sale, which represents a significant chunk of change on an $800+ item. It may be worthwhile to wait for one of these sales before purchasing this chair. If you can find one, I would definitely recommend finding a retail store that has this chair and trying it out before purchasing, for a number of reasons: 1) Did I mention the price? It's a lot of money, and probably a pain to return/exchange, if that's even possible, so try it before you buy. 2) The Aeron chairs come in three different sizes (A/B/C), and from other reviews and my own person observation of the medium (B) size, they run on the small side. My wife and I are both 5'6", and we fit fine in the medium, but that might not be the case for someone a little taller. 3) There are closely related Aeron chairs, most notably the version with lumbar support instead of PostureFit that runs slightly cheaper: Aeron(R) Chair Highly Adjustable Model with Graphite Frame Classic Carbon with Lumbar Support Size C . This chair has a horizontal lumbar support rather than the butterfly-shaped PostureFit support. I found the horizontal lumbar support uncomfortable - it felt like a not-very-well-padded horizontal bar digging into my back through the mesh - but other reviewers prefer it over the PostureFit, so it's best to try it out on your own.

I usually rely very heavily on customer reviews here on Amazon to help me choose the best product. The vast majority of the time I find this to be an effective and worthy pursuit. However, in the case the the Aeron chair, the average review would certainly lead me to move on to another product. In reality, though, my experience with the Aeron trumps any number of negative reviews. True enough, this chair may not be for everyone. First of all, it is very, very expensive. It may also not have a universal appeal regarding its appearance (certainly my neighbor was stunned at the appearance of the chair when I mentioned the cost). When it comes to comfort, though, I have found no other chair that I would rather spend long days in. I spend 50 or more hours a week in front of a computer at home or at work. My office chair is an Aeron, and I now have one for my home office thanks to my recent Amazon purchase. From the first time that I sat in an Aeron in a hotel, to my college years where my tuition money worked hard to provide Aerons throughout the school's library, to my office, and now to my home, I have always loved the comfort and support that the Aeron provides. I agree with other reviewers who pointed out that you should ensure your Aeron is appropriate to your body size. I fit perfectly in a medium and am certain that is the size that I have always sat it. I can imagine that the smaller or larger chair may not be as comfortable for me. It may not be for everyone, but I absolutely love my Aeron!

The completed chair is fine. I had one for years at my old job. My wife has has one for several years in her home office. The problem is the assembly. The chair I bought for my wife several years ago was no problem to assemble; it took about 15 minutes. The one I just received was another matter. There are two major problems with the assembly required on this chair. The first is that I am expecting "some assembly required" to mean that the manufacturer has a complete chair that had to be disassembled into a few pieces in order to ship and that I am going to be expected to reassemble the chair. That's not the case here. This more of a "we offer six different models of chair so we're going to send you the base model and you're going to build your own chair by adding accessories that vary by model." The very first instruction was to remove a screw that was already in the chair and drill a hole to accommodate the accessories required for my model. The hole don't come pre-drilled? On a chair that costs almost $1,000? Really? I have to drill it myself and, if I make a mistake, I have ruined a $1,000 piece of furniture. The second problem is that while the chair might seem very 2016, the instructions are very 1916. Confusing, poorly worded instructions along with crappy illustrations on a piece of tissue paper. It's about what you'd expect with a cheap child's toy manufactured in a non-English-speaking country. No photos. No labeling of items. Essential pieces are left out of the instructions while extremely basic things are both mentioned and illustrated. Plus, there are two separate sets of instructions. And, to top it all off, some of the pieces didn't quite fit properly. I sent it back. If I wanted a poorly made, do-it-yourself office chair kit, I would have spent $40 on a clearance chair from Ikea (which is what this reminded me of). Spending $1,000 on a Herman Miller, I expected far better.

I have a horrible back, and I just began working at home a significant amount of time. I read countless reviews and magazine articles and arrived at the Aeron as the chair of choice for people with back problems. I'm 5'10", but I have a smaller build so I assumed the B size chair would fit me, according to the Herman Miller official size guide. (Unfortunately, I can't link to external sites) When I got the chair, it was very comfortable at first, but then I noticed the front of the cushion cut into my mid thigh and made my feet tingle after sitting in it for a while. The chair back felt like it was cutting into the top of my shoulder blades. Additionally, I was unable to achieve the slightly-downward-angle for my forearms as ergonomics experts recommend for computer work because the arm rests simply didn't adjust high enough for me. I read some more regarding specifically the sizing of these chairs, and found an alternative size guide from OfficeDesigns. Contrary to the Herman Miller guide, OfficeDesigns recommends that ANYONE 5'10" or taller buy the C chair. They were right. Before ordering the replacement, I went into a Herman Miller showroom to try out the C size, and it was much more comfortable. The cushion comes out almost all the way to my knees, the seat back contours better to my shoulder blades, and the armrests can come up a full few inches higher than the B chair. TL;DR: Size is everything, in terms of fancy desk chairs

I have only used it for one day, but it feels pretty supportive, if not cushy. The support may work out to help my back more than a soft cushion. I bought the B size and hope it wasn't a mistake to not go for the bigger one. I am 6' 1" and 175 pounds. The chair was delivered in good condition, but needed some assembly. Putting the back on was no problem, but the PostureFit Lumbar Support was a little more difficult. The printed instructions leave a lot to be desired and even going to Herman Miller's website I couldn't find a video that showed enough detail. I wound up going to YouTube and finding a video from a chair store that gave me enough information to finish the installation. Also, the video on the Herman Miller site that shows how to adjust the chair (without any spoken instructions) leaves a lot to be desired. I also found another video on YouTube that was shorter and had a guy that gave concise spoken instructions that helped. Still need to use it for a week or two to rate the comfort/support. Overall, the quality is OK, but maybe not as good as a Steelcase Leap. I am hoping the support and design of the Aeron will make up for that. The chair really should be priced about $500 instead of $900, but that's life I guess. Update: After using this for quite a while, I have decided it's still not that comfortable. The hard plastic frame on the seat digs into the sides of my legs unless I sit with my legs together pointing forward. I am lowering the stars to 3 and looking for a new chair. Thinking about the Steelcase Gesture this time. Right now I am sitting in a cheap Staples chair with a TempurPedic seat base and my legs are happier. The back support isn't as good as the Aeron, but that hard plastic edge on the Aeron seat is a pain.

I'm a software engineer, so I spent the majority of my day sitting in front of a computer or laptop screen. I stay fit, but all of the sitting is not healthy. I just recieved this Aeron Miller chair, and put it together, and adjusted it to my liking... During my career, I've sat in any number of different office chairs, many of which are designed to be ergonomic, but the difference between this chair and the rest is like night and day. My back is naturally straight in it, and its very comfortable. Also, I'm pretty short and stocky, and have had an issue where a lot of other chairs' seats were too long. This chair--no problem. Also, get the PostureFit--it makes a difference. The only negative thing I can say is that this chair is so damn pricey! However, as a longterm investment, its well worth it. Your posture and back is worth it.

Extremely comfortable. Supports my back really well. Excellent range of adjustments right where I want them. If the longevity of the chair is any good, I'll never buy the cheaper 'office chairs' again.
