This stunning treasury features full-page plates of the finest works by the famed English artist, Arthur Rackham (1867–1939). A leading figure in the early twentieth century's Golden Age of Illustration, Rackham interpreted scenes from such diverse material as fairy tales, Wagnerian opera, and Shakespearean comedy. His memorable images, which combine whimsy, romance, and sophistication, continue to enchant children and adults alike. Magnificently reprinted from more than 25 rare early editions, these 86 illustrations were selected from hundreds of possibilities and include many plates that have not been reproduced in decades. They span Rackham's career — from his landmark 1905 edition of Rip Van Winkle to masterworks such as Undine and A Midsummer Night's Dream and his final publication, Wind in the Willows, in 1939. Art lovers, book collectors, and anyone with an appreciation for imaginative visual storytelling will prize this marvelous treasury. Review: A damn fine addition to my library... - I bought this while browsing through the illustration section of desertcart.com. The illustration on the cover captured my attention: the soft desaturated tones, the girl's pose and attitude, the flowing of the cards: everything was screaming excellence at me. So I instantly clicked on the buy button. When I recieved it, I was happy. It's not a hardback, but the print quality is excellent. The prints are full of gorgeous illustrations of all periods of Mr. Rackhams career. Some images aren't big enough for my tastes (i prefer the poster book variety), but they are still big enough to appreciate the fine detail that he put in the work. As an illustrator myself, I find the quality of the reproductions and the works worth studying. Highly recommended. Review: Excellent edition - The quality of this edition cannot be stressed enough. The reproductions of Rackham's illustrations are printed in rich, deep color, making each page an artwork in itself. Every page has a white margin around the illustration, and a quote at the bottom to let you know to what text the illustration refers. The book is well-bound and the printing is excellent. I plan to order another copy for myself, as I got the first to give away and wanted to keep it!

The Magic of Rackham's Illustrations
I heartily concur with all the other reviews as far as the necessity of exposing children to Rackham's illustrations as soon as possible. Hopefully this would happen in part through his books, like his Aesop's Fables, Favorite Tales From Grimm, Alice and Wonderland, etc. So my purpose is more practical: to say that the two Dover collections of his pictures, this and Rackham's Fairy Tale Illustrations are very true to Rackham's original color illustrations. I have seen reproductions of some of his illustrations that make his colors seem muddy. He uses a lot of dark colors in his work, but he also used many subtle light colors which have been captured well here. A great value for the money, along with the Fairy Tale book. All the pictures are suitable for framing.

Useful
I’m only beginning to feel my way through AR and books about him. I got this one hoping its selection of illustrations would help me find his work that emphasizes the forest and wood interiors he does so well. It’s come through for me there. And it seems to be a good survey of his work on comparatively few pages: it’s all full page images and spare captions. The colors, however, are not as saturated as those in my copy of AR, A Life With Illustration. I’m glad I have this book. It was delivered promptly and is in very good condition.

Art for the ages
Arthur Rackham is the illustrator who made and still makes fairy tales all the more sinister and intriguing...and the muted colors, expressive fingers of the delicate fairies, the leering eyes of the fat, oily beetle beckon you to join in the tale. No one else like him

Delightful. Great for artists
I am an illustrator and the images in this book remind me of the ones that shaped my interest in art when I was a child. I bought all three of them offered and find each one to be wonderful. Even my grand daughter refused to talk to meas she examined the book.

The Arthur Rackham Treasury

Illuminated Ruminations
Arthur Rackham was one of the most gifted Illustrators of all time, including The Golden Age of Illustration from whence his influence strongly flourished up to these modern times. Digital art's got nothing on this cat. Like any Master, his work is Timeless. Combining a masterful depiction of realistic human anatomy and fanciful muse coupled with a brilliant fluidity of line, he was capable of anything. His work is arresting, bringing both delight and awe to anyone who observes it. He was The Master. This book is well conceived tho it would've been nice to have within its pages a more in-depth biography. Nonetheless, it is highly recommended for anyone interested in timeless works of wonder,

Bei disegni, ma edizione che non dà ciò che promette
I disegni sono stampati con un ampio riquadro bianco. Di fatto sono un bel po' più piccoli della dimensione del foglio
