Great Mini DisplayPort to VGA Active Adapter
I recently purchased the AMD Radeon 7850 to do some casual gaming and was notably intrigued by the AMD Eyefinity software, which can span a game across 3 or more monitors. So I bought two older monitors off of eBay for cheap that were the same size and resolution of my current one. Since the graphics card had only one DVI port to use the included DVI-VGA adapter, I had to utilize the two Mini DisplayPorts. I was not hesitant to try out this adapter when it had the best reviews and most other Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapters were almost the same price as the monitors themselves! I was not disappointed. When first taking these adapters out of their packages, I inspected the build quality and was quite pleased. The cable connections and port felt quite sturdy, and although it does not matter so much to me since it's not going to move much from the back of my desktop, this is something a laptop user would look for. Hook-up was easy since the Mini DisplayPort slipped in nicely and locked tightly in place, while the VGA end slipped on with ease and the screws fit in perfectly. The computer immediately recognized the new monitors and I was able to begin working with them immediately. Setup could not have been easier. I immediately started the AMD Eyefinity software and that was all that was needed to begin gaming across all three monitors. 4032x1024 resolution looks spectacular and these adapters work perfectly for this use. Many people have complained about off-brand adapters not delivering the best quality or have problems with the video output or even getting the monitors to recognize in the first place. That was not the case with these two. I am pleased overall with the convenience, quality, and durability of these Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapters. If I ever need computer cables or adapters again, Cable Matters will be the first place I look.

The Gold Standard
I bought this cable to facilitate the initial development work on my Intel NUC (model D34010WYK). I attached it to an old Proview 700P monitor that only had VGA input and I needed a way to plug it into the mini display port on the NUC. The NUC eventually moved to the living room where it attached via a HDMI cable to the TV but initially I wanted to use the Proview. Installation was literally a snap. I like the way it doesn't add any additional length to the VGA cable and how it cleanly transitions all the signals to the smaller port. The video displayed perfectly and I am very happy with the resulting image. Could I have purchased a cheaper cable? Sure, but I believe you get what you pay for. Highly recommended.

Does a great job! Worth the price and perfromance...
...and it is simple to use. Works on my SP2 and is easy to travel with. On some TVs it cuts off some of the out edge of the screen size, but I believe this is a video card issues, not this Display port, because it works flawlessly on EVERY computer monitor I have plugged it into. The plastic may seem light, causing other reviews to call it "cheap," but it is solidly built like any peripheral device you pick up and hold at a BB store.

A Great Solution to an Intentionally Created Problem
It does exactly what it says it will do. It allows you to connect your device that decided they didn't need a VGA port for every single solitary projector in every single school, church, or convention center. Why would we want the port for the equipment that we have when we can have a port for equipment we don't have? Oh, so we have to buy an adapter. Got it. The adapter works great with my Mid-2010 Macbook Pro. It does exactly what it is supposed to do. Pro: Reasonably priced solution to the absence of a really necessary port on full-sized laptops. Con: The threading for the screws is set into the trim a bit. For more VGA cables this isn't an issue (and most of the time actually screwing it down isn't completely necessary) but if your VGA cable has short screws, it won't screw into the threads. Not a big deal, but it would be nice if I could make this a bit tougher. If you need it, get it.

VGA projector uses whole screen now!
Older laptops with video outputs of VGA can easily show its screen without any issue to big screen (such as projectors), but more modern laptops with up-to-dated outputs only like HDMI may suffer from shrinked image on project screen, maybe due to the problem of HDMI-VGA adaptor issue. I had such problem when I used a HDMI-VGA adaptor with my Dell XPS 15 (L521X, 2013 model). This laptop also has a mini displayport on it, but I simply assumed it wouldn't change the output. But once I tried Apple's mini displayport adaptor, I found that it does convert very well (no more shrinked screen from the projector). That's why I purchased this adaptor and it works as I expected. Materials feel good and premium, which is a bonus. I love this adaptor.

Works Great, Full Resolution
Bought this to hook up my ultra book to the projectors at work. The first time I hooked it up the screen flickered and the color was off, second time everything worked fine and has been working fine for over 2 dozen training sessions. It displays 1920x1080 resolution as well (it can probably go higher but this is the max resolution of my monitors). The quality is very good, the cable isn't flimsy and the connectors are molded well. I didn't try too hard, but I wasn't able to screw in the VGA connector to this, not much of a big deal as its not a permanent installation for me.

This product is not a quality product. I bought it to use with a new Surface Book. When I first plugged it into the computer it seemed to work fine. I unplugged it from the computer and the mini plug broke. After reading my review I was contacted by Cable Matters offering to replace or refund. I have other Cable Matters products with which I am quite happy, so perhaps this was simply a defective one. As I have already replaced with another product I will request a refund. I am impressed by their service. I have since received my refund, in large part due to follow up by Cable Matters reminding me to return the item.

Doesn't work with Mac OS Sierra
I was using the Cable Matters Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter with my MacBook Pro for a while with no problems. Then I upgraded to Mac OS Sierra, and the adapter no longer works. I have checked the adapter with Macs that I have not upgraded, and the adapter does work for those. I also have noticed a different brand of generic Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter also does not work anymore. However, the Apple branded adapter I have still does work on the upgraded machine. So, I have come to the conclusion that the Cable Matters Mini DisplayPort adapter is missing an authentication chip that Apple is now requiring for Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapters. So, unless someone else finds out otherwise, I would advise not buying this if you are using a MacBook that is upgraded to Sierra.

excellent product and customer service
Excellent item and excellent customer service. unfortunately, the original unit I received was faulty and did not work. Through my own laziness I did not try to return the item. Upon reading my review, cable matters contacted me and arranged for a replacement to be sent out immediately. The replacement works perfectly and I cannot recommend this company enough.
