What a powerful, clear introduction to Linear Algebra! Since the field was completed long before this book was published (although important generalizations have been made, they are far above the level of this course), it is as good as the current edition for reference, at a tiny fraction of the cost. Examples are insightful and numerous - exposition is even better. Strang reminds the student where Linear Algebra fits in the big picture and does so with the brilliance of Feynman. The only exception is for computer scientists, who will find that the examples are quite dated. However, a bright programmer will be able to adapt the programming examples pretty easily, since Strang has such excellent exposition. Buy the book your instructor assigns for the class, sell it back and buy this for your library.

Great book for anyone who wants to learn linear algebra from ground up.

The book has many good insights, but not organized in a the best way for a student to learn the material.

Gilbert Strang has defined the modern teaching of Linear Algebra. This book and his "Introduction to Linear Algebra" should be taught to engineering majors even before Calculus

This is a well-written text. I also have a first edition, which was excellent, yet Strang has improved the clarity with every edition. If you solve every example, you will be well-prepared for anything that your math department throws at you.

Great price for the book. Just be aware that this the problem are not in the correct order. So you'd have to search for a pdf version to compare which questions you should actually be doing for homework. No other complaints - 5 stars!

It is an excellent book! It is concise, nevertheless all the needed explanations are given. It is very very well written book. Some examples are revisited throughout the book to understand different perspectives. The problems at the end of the book are diverse, and the answers at the end of the book are good. One of the best book I have ever read. Coupled with the lectures provided online, it makes for a perfect course. I loved it, am almost done with it, and feel I learned a lot.
