Semi-closed? I need to mix and master for home recording. Is semi-closed not for this? i need open back headphones but i dont want to spend over $50.

hi. For travel and office these are great. slight bias in the low end. rare for AKG. I'd not use them for critical work. I'd suggest the AKG K240 at about the same price. Clear and unbiased to the point of being boring.

I have big ears, will the cushions rest on my ears or will they go around my ears and rest on my head?

After reading the reviews, these look like good phones to use in a (home) radio studio. Am I right? Advice appreciated.

They are perfect just for that. You will be able to hear music in real time real form. There are head phones that add extra bass and things of that nature but these headphones don't do that so if that's what you're expecting than I wouldn't suggest to purchase them. I even use these headphones to listen to music on other devices because you hear sounds and characteristics in music you wouldn't hear otherwise. Perfect for studio use whether home or professional.

Im deciding between this and bose and also the takstar hi 2050/gemini hsr-1000 ,which is most comfy?

I don't have any experience with the bose or gemini, but the AKGs are very comfortable. They are lightweight, and I've worn them for hours at a time in a recording studio setting. They are my go to headphone for bang for the buck. The sound isn't the flattest, I feel like they have a little more bass and treble like most modern headphones do, which makes them sound "better" to most people for general listening. My general experience with Bose is that it's over hyped, heavily marketed, and mediocre. Bose's target market in general is consumers who don't know any better, while AKG makes products for musicians.
