What is the little square thing do because nothing happens when I plug mine into my phone

When it is plugged in, the square charm lights up when the phone rings or at least it is supposed to.

does it work with HTC inspire 4g cell phone?

It works with any cell phone. Their durable, I've had mine for a long time and they still work great.

will these fit the htc hd7 phone

I'm sorry. I am not 100% positive. But, from what I was told when I contacted the storefront, because of them not working with my LG phone. They told me, that they work with any HTC phone, and just a few others. Sorry, I could not be of more help...........On the plus side, even though the mic did not work, the earphones worked great.
