Rigor Mortis was the first underground Heavy Metal band signed to a major label. Their 1988 Capitol debut is a legendary Thrash/Speed Metal album, influencing bands like Toxic Holocaust and Goatwhore and motivated Ministry to progress from dance music to Metal! Ministry would, in turn, influence everything from Nine Inch Nails to Marilyn Manson and Slipknot. Rigor Mortis is mandatory listening! Review: We are pestilent and contaminate the world... - ...and make tombs of your cities! I got the Rigor Mortis self-titled album on cassette when it came out all those years ago and immediately fell in love with it. If you've never heard of Rigor Mortis and, moreover, have never heard this particular album, you owe it to yourself to give it a listen. What you'll find is a high speed horror-themed ride, where the talent level is high but the band's take-yourself-seriously meter is low. Fans of the grainy horror movies, such as Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Re-Animator will appreciate the sound bites included, not to mention the lyrical references to the same. While it sounds like all fun and games, let's be clear - Rigor Mortis are a seriously talented, tight unit who should have been so much more than they were in those days. Internal struggles, more than anything, killed the future of these guys who, otherwise, may be a household name in the genre of speedmetal. Things went downhill shortly afterward, and I would not recommend their last LP "Rigor Mortis vs. the Earth." But this little gem, the Rigor Mortis self-titled album, is one too good to pass up. If you haven't heard them - listen. If you don't like them, you're probably not a speedmetal fan to begin with. Review: An Undiscovered Speed Metal Treasure - If you were to bounce the name Rigor Mortis off of any fan of metal, he/she would probably ask u, "who the ---- is Rigor Mortis?" This cd is a classic. A true UNDISCOVERED classic, hence the complete independent release on cd (finally!). Mike Scaccia's guitar playing is unparallelled. Not only is his style fast, but it is concise and melodic (i.e. "Demons", "Wizard of Gore"). Bruce Corbitt's vocals, though not drylung, still present an angry and demented character. It's like watching a cool horror movie (specifically, the ORIGINAL Texas Chainsaw Massacre comes to mind). Casey Orr's bass fills in and compliments Mike Scaccia's guitar, throughout this offering. Orr also shares vocals (i.e. "Die In Pain"), and delivers the same impact as Corbitt. And what would Rigor Mortis be without the pounding rhythm of Harden Harrison? Frankly, I would place Harrison on the list of great drummers such as Dave Lombardo (SLAYER), Charlie Benante (ANTHRAX), and John Bonham (LED ZEPPELIN). He's that intense. This cd is a must for anybody that still enjoys the speed metal genre. It's not "satanic" by any means. It is a lost classic that made speed metal fun. It's like watching a classic, campy, horror flick: entertaining, but not so serious, as to be boring and pretentious. ..So uncork that beer/soda, throw this cd in your drive, and enjoy..

Thrash puro!
Una joya del Thrash Metal pero con el fallecimiento de su guitarrista no se si la banda seguirá lo que si es claro dejo un buen legado.

Best thrash of 1990 for sure
Best thrash of 1990 for sure. The twilight feeling of death metal being born thrash. That's what this album is. MUST HAVE. The fucken guitar is searing, blazing, glorious shredding and doomy but fast riffing making unforgettable songs that haunt you.

Good Old School Thrash
I like to base bands like this on the vocals being different from other bands, and this album fits that ticket. It's a low growl while not sounding too low and fake and it's recognizable.

Classic Thrash Metal
Heard this Texas band years ago. I finally found this cd. This cd sounds awesome because it is re-mastered and also contains 3 bonus tracks. No filler here.

Monstrous thrash gem
Amazing album, classic thrash gem, very underrated, bad luck prevented it from being with the top dogs. From the first track till the last, it isn't stop thrashing, you can't stop and you can't skip, you need to listen to the whole album. Songs are monstrous with evil lyrics, killer riffs, badass vocals remind me Sacred Reich, great solos R.I.P. Mike. I can't see any redundant song, all are great like 'Foaming at the Mouth', 'Bodily Dismemberment', 'Demons', 'Shroud of Gloom'. The album never tiring, repeat it again and again, very enjoyable. Any thrash metal fan should own it, not anyone know them and it's a must, so buy it.
