Review: Works just fine - I bought this from desertcart Warehouse and wasn't expecting a like new unit but was surprised when I opened the box. It arrived poorly packed in its original, albeit beat up box, but was in perfect shape. It had been slammed around in the shipping box too but it had no damage. I'm not using this for cutting paper, but to cut 1/42" wood veneer for large scale parquetry projects. As such the cutting edge has to be perfectly square to the fence at the top of the unit. Although some reviewers had issues with it being out of alignment, this one was right on the money. The fence is adjustable if it's out of alignment. The unit cuts very well. Making hair thin cuts has been a breeze with this unit, better than the sharp edged guillotine trimmer that I had been using. I've used it with heavy weight paper with the same results. I've not tried cutting 15 sheets as advertised, so I can't say if it can do it, but when it's not pushed to capacity it is extremely accurate. My final test was to cut two pieces of heavy paper stock and then put the cut edges together to see how straight the cut is. The cut is perfectly straight. Using the trimmer is a little different than some other trimmers. The blade will drop until the paper clamp contacts the table, so you have to swing it up to almost vertical to keep it out of your way when setting up. The clamp isn't aligned to the blade and it has a lot of movement side to side, making it difficult at times to keep your paper aligned if it isn't against the top fence. I've learned that holding a finger or two down on the clamp helps keep it in place while cutting odd pieces. The swing blade is curved and isn't as stiff as a standard trimmer, so you have to pull it straight downward without pushing the blade away from the fixed blade or you'll get ragged cuts. All in all, this is a good trimmer for craft work as well as light duty office use. It's built like a tank so it will take some abuse, but light enough and thin enough to store easily. Other plastic guillotine cutter bases I've tried before were just a tad warped. Metal base helps weigh down cutter. Less likely to slide. * The cutter came complete. Compared to other reviews, there were no missing screws or loose parts. * Most guillotine cutters have a separate blade atached to the cuttig arm. The Dahle cutter part IS the cutting arm. * Guillotine blade edge is not as accute (sharp angle) as standard guillotine blades. 20 degree blade angle compared to the sharper 50 degree blades. Its actualy safer this way, as its harder to cut youself if your hand touches the edge. I already got a paper-like cut on my knuckles with other brand guillotine blades from being so sharp. * Guide bar helps quickly make repetetive cuts without having to re-measure. PERFORMANCE * I compared 3 cutters side by side. The other two did not have a securing bar; You had to use your hand to secure it. That increases the risk of cutting yourself. The paper securing bar held the papers down well enough so that about 4-5 pages wouldn't shift while cutting, assuring straight cuts. * The paper secure arm also enssured that the paper edge wouldn't fold up while making small cuts. The other cutters could not make such small cuts because the paper bent or arched while cutting, leaving irregular cuts * The nearly square edge of the Dahle cutting arm, I thought would not make a clean cut as the other sharper blade cutters. I was dead wrong. The combination or the paper securing arm and the preciseness of the blunt edge of the guillotine arm not only made the Dahle cutter much safer to work with than the other cutters, but it was able to effortlessly shave 1/32 of an inch off the paper. It was THAT precise. 5 out of 5. I bought this to replace an aging paper cutter in my office that had lost its edge. Everyone was impressed at how good this one was. As with any paper cutter it is important to not cut too many pages at one time. I would buy this one again, it is the best paper cutter I have ever used outside of a graphic arts studio. **Q: Maximum cut size? One reviewer says this cutter will not cut a full 12" (they say it 'almost' cuts 10"). Is that true? I need 11 inch cuts. Thanks!** A: I don't know why someone said it will NOT cut a 12x12 sheet of paper...it WILL. I put a 12x12 sheet on the cutter, and it DID cut it in half, no problem. 12" is the MAX it will cut. Some 12x12 scrapbook papers will have the little extra tear off part on it, making it a little larger than 12x12...maybe that is what they used. I bought this cutter because I make cards and other paper crafts. Basically the 12" cutter is 10 inches wide and 12 inches long. If you want a 12x12 sheet of paper to fully lay on the cutter, then buy a larger size. **Q: Minimum cut size? I heard that this cutter would not measure all the way down to 1/8", which I need to be able to do my paper quilling. Is that true?** A: Since I am not a crafter, I don't know how useful it would be for you. The blade does not feel sharp but the cuts are clean and neat. Also, the measurement grid is very accurate. I cut and size photographs and photographic paper so I have to have accuracy and clean cuts and this cutter performs very well. My only complaint is the handle locking tab. The handle is cheap plastic and the tab is part of the mold. Right out of the box, the handle would not lock as per instruction. After inspection I found the cheap plastic tab had broken off. I found it laying in the packaging the cutter came out of. This is a very poor design and now the handle does not stay down.
