Seems to be accurate, same readings as the analytical lab we use

Is it used for fresh water or for salt water?

The 2100Q Portable Turbidimeter can be used in both fresh water and salt water. It is most commonly used in the application of potable water testing, because its test procedure adheres to the United States Environmental Protection Agency's (USEPA) requirement that test procedures for the analysis of contaminants under its Safe Drinking Water Act (40 CFR 141) follow the method given in the Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater, section 2130 B (Nephelometric Method). The United States Geological Survey also references this method for the determination of turbidity in high-salt and brackish waters.

Very expensive to repair

We had a button fall off of our 2 year old unit and wanted to get it repaired. The meter works fine just has an opening that water could get in. To repair this we were quoted $640 from Hach. If you already had a service plan at $268 per year the repair would be included. Since our unit is not currently in the service plan they want $640 + $268. Too much! I spoke to 3 different people at Hach. They would not budge on this. No one at Hach has the authority or cares to keep a customer. Or you could try buying a brand new Apera turbidity meter that costs $636 delivered from Amazon.
