Dogs Review: A Great "field guide" to dog breeds - This is a great field guide to the various dog breeds of the world. It does not represent all breeds, but has a large variety of both common and rarer breeds with an overview of breed characteristics, temperament, and basic information. Although it gives a good overve of each represented breed, it does not go into great detail so I wouldn't recommend this as a sole source of selecting a dog breed. Always thoroughly research a breed using multiple sources before deciding on a family pet! This is a great handbook of dog breeds and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in dogs. Review: The Best Reference Book for Man's Best Friend! - Our then-3-year-old son originally read the Insects book and carried it around with him everywhere (it stayed on his bed stairs at night!), excitedly pointing out insects and bugs he found in our yard. We checked out some others from the library and decided to buy the rest of them as they're wonderful reference books and we wanted to foster our son's love for learning. He love this Dogs book, too. It's thorough, descriptive, has vibrant and detailed pictures, and is very durable (we own the "turtleback" versions, which have harder covers than paperback ones). It helps him understand the different species of dogs, especially when I'm talking about the neighbor's Samoyed, Pug, or whatnot. This set will last for years and encourage our sons (our 2-year old loves them, too, especially the Reptiles one) to explore the world around them, both in books and outside.

A book children who love dogs will love as a reference
Bought this book as a backup copy to one my father owned My autistic daughter has a current obsession with dogs and this Alderton book fills the bill. One of the best all around books to describe in short, pithy descriptions various dog breeds from around the world. Doesn't include every dog breed but comes darned near close. A great reference guide.

Great for dog obsessed children
My toddler daughter is obsessed with dogs. I wanted to get her a book full of dog pictures, and remembered that as a child, I had this brands horse book which had a different type of horse on each page. This book has the same theme and my daughter loves pointing to the pictures and saying "dog!"

Good overview of the wide spectrum of our canine friends.
This volume is just one of 6 books that I own from this DK series of guides. Like most of them it is a beautifully illustrated book with 100% color, glossy pages and a sturdy, flexible binding. It provides a quick introduction to the amazing assortment of breeds and their specific types such as gundogs, companion dogs, working dogs, etc. My assessment is that it is a beautiful, durable and affordable introduction to the fascinating world of dogs.

Great book Bad sticker
I have ordered this book before for myself and to share with others in my family. It arrived in good condition except for a sticker on the in side that reads Thank you for your Order. Not sure who is thanking me but when I tried to remove the sticker it tore the page. As this is a gift I am very unhappy about this. There is not time to do a return so I will work with it. The sticker is completely unnecessary and damaging to the book. I will absolutely return the next book with such a sticker.

Kids Love this Book
My kids love reading this book and discovering the different types of dogs. We aren't a "dog" family per se, but they all enjoy looking up a dog that has captured their fancy. The information is precise and the pictures are very good.
