Amazon Basics Automatic Stainless Steel Rectangular Dustbin, 12 litre, Burgundy

Our Morphy Richards sensor bin had packed in for the 2nd time with different faults. The price to replace a part out of warranty was half the price of this bin and around 2/3 of the price for a complete new bin. This bin has huge benefits over our previous bin. Simple benefits but huge in practical use! 1: We use 50l bin bags, in our previous bin it felt like emptying it was a chore at times, it was slimmer, but it felt like you were pulling the bag from left to right with a upwards force, almost like wrestling to get a tin of spam out of its metal shell. (If you know, you know). With this bin however, the bags simply lift out due to how wide and much more rounded the bags fit in. The bin bag can contain more waste and it still can be removed with ease. 👍 2:) The sensor: One little feature which is much better is that you can activate the motion sensor for the bin lid to lift (obviously) but unlike our prior bin, this bin sense when your emptying rubbish in the bin, so will only close once it knows you have walked away and are no longer in range of the sensor. If for whatever reason you feel like it isn’t closing quick enough, or you are quickly trying to dispose of say the contents of your bag less hoover and don’t want dust flying out there is 2x buttons 1 for open and 1 for close. So instead of simply waiting for the sensor to finish sensing simply press button and close it earlier. 3: Price - This is truly excellent value for money and it comes with the mini bin which you could use for anything really, recycling, bathroom, or whatever you could potentially use it for. The price of this was cheaper than buying a full replacement bin from morphy richards and 2/3 of the price of a replacement part. The fact you get a bigger bin with more features is a huge plus, getting the 2nd mini bin is a bigger bonus. 4: Design - it’s a bin! It looks clean with the stainless steel finish and it doesn’t feel like a cheap budget look. I am more than happy with the design and look. 5: - Warranty As it’s a amazon product the warranty comes through Amazon who for their own products tend to always offer good warranty and customer service. 6: Power switch: Yes it has a power on/off switch as you would expect, huge benefit however is it’s placement, which is on the reverse of the bin, unlike my previous bin which was placed on the underside of its holder which was inside of the bin. For reasons such as cleaning or removing the bin bag I tend to turn the switch off whilst removing the bag. The placement of the switch just makes things a bit convenient compared to our last one. Negatives: - 1: The batteries it uses are I believe as I’m writing this is either C, or D batteries, these tend to be more expensive than other batteries which is nit picking at best, getting rechargeable batteries which are reliable might be a better option long term depending on how long they last before needing to be replaced. Apart from the batteries, the only thing I would say is partially a negative would be the power switch, this is the only component I can say feels cheap, but this is extreme nit picking from me. I have issues where I really don’t like touching bins. This works well, the batteries last a long time, it feels well made. It’s plenty big enough for our family of 4. Don’t throw away the instructions like I did, because it often resets itself - definitely user error, and teenagers rushing it! Because I lost the instructions I have to cycle through various settings to get it to reset, but that’s not the bins fault. Good value for money. It’s been in constant use now for four people for 6 months and it’s had one battery change from the original batteries. Very easy to clean because of the smooth surfaces. The profile of it means it fits nicely in our small gap. We like it!

If you want a bin that automatically opens and closes, relatively small, then this is good option. The colour looks good and like the picture too. It works by sensing motion and will remain open for a few seconds (or longer if it continues to detect motion) before automatically closing. It has a plastic ring inside the top to hold the bin liner which also stops the bag being visible with the lid on. Its battery operated and comes with 2 (cheap) batteries. Personally, I have had no issue with its operation and its worked flawlessly since I bought it. You do have to be aware of its placement as it will detect motion and open up unnecessarily if you (or pets) get too close. I do think its a little on the expensive side - especially for an Amazon Basics brand - and you can get cheaper as well as bigger bins for the money - maybe not in a colour Stainless Steel though. Overall, I can't fault the bin, its operation or Amazon's dispatch and delivery times. As I can't give 4.5stars, I have rounded down to 4 but only because the price a little on the steep side.

The quality is really good and the colour is quite attractive. The lid works very well and it makes things so much easier! I also like the fact that you can tuck in the bin liner once in place so you don't see the top of bin liners hanging outside. Very neat. It even comes with batteries. The only small issue for me is that I bought this bin to go in a tight space between a wall and my vanity unit. The size is a perfect fit but the wall or the vanity unit seem to confuse the sensor on the lid. As the signal keeps getting bounced back, the lid keeps thinking your hand is still there so the lid stays open. I had to move it to a more open space and it works fine. Overall a very nice product at a good price.

Do not buy! I purchased this set of bins thinking I was getting a great deal. I know it is sad to get excited about a new bin, but I was - only to be gravely disappointed. There were no batteries included so I set the 50 L bin up to use, manually opening the lid. It is a good size and matches my kitchen appliances in stainless steel. Batteries were purchased the next day, but the bin doesn’t work, either using the sensor or the button at the front. Now and again it seems to have some sort of seizure where the lid opens and closes continually by about 1 cm for a couple of minutes, even though there is no one near it. Of course, having used it means that I cannot return it. The 12 L bin works but the lid doesn’t open up to a 90 degree angle, so it can be awkward placing larger items in the bin. Really disappointed that I wasted my money.

Bought for my office really nice bin and the auto open is fantastic not too noisy and works very well

Prinzipiell ist ein Mülleimer aus Edelstahl (bis auf den Deckel) mit berührungslosem Bewegungssensor eine gute Sache - vorausgesetzt dass der Schließ- und Öffnungsmechanismus nicht zuviel Energie (Batterien) fordert und er mit dem Sensor auch langlebig ist. Ob dies bei diesem Mülleimer, der anstelle eines langjährig genutzten Billiggestells für gelbe Säcke verwendet wird, gegeben ist, lässt sich erst nach längerem Gebrauch beurteilen. Erster Eindruck (ohne Langzeittest): + Sieht (trotz Plastikdeckel) recht gut aus, auf jeden Fall natürlich um Klassen besser als das Billiggestell für gelbe Säcke. + Der Sensor reagiert eigentlich (s. Minus) sehr gut und sensibel. + Gelbe Säcke passen sehr gut rein, für die gelben Säcke ideal geeignet. + Der Verschluss scheint recht dicht und damit geruchsvermeidend zu sein. Aber: - Unter einem (Küchen-) Stehtisch funktioniert der Öffnungs- und Schließmechanismus leider nicht! Somit mussten wir den Mülleimer entgegen unserer Planung "frei" stellen, was leider zusätzlich Platz benötigt und häufig zum ungewollten Öffnen beim Vorbeigehen führt. Noch amüsiert es mich jedesmal, aber optimal ist es natürlich nicht. - Das Verschließen des Deckels erfolgt etwas wackelig bzw. ruckelig, so dass man sich um die Langlebigkeit des Deckels bzw. vom Verschlussmechanismus Sorgen machen muss. Aber ok, solange es keinen frühzeitigen Schaden gibt, ist es eher ein "kosmetisches" Problem, mit dem man gut leben kann. Fazit: Als Neuware gibt es eine Kaufempfehlung - mit der Einschränkung, dass es noch nicht absehbar ist, inwieweit sich der Mülleimer auch im längeren Betrieb als robust , zuverlässig und energiesparend erweisen wird. Ich selbst hätte bei einem rein mechanischen Mülleimer ein etwas "besseres Gefühl", aber meine "bessere Hälfte" wollte gern den Mülleimer mit berührungslosem Bewegungssensor haben ... - im Moment (als Neuware) auch für mich allerdings eine gute Entscheidung. PS: Die Batterien halten erstaunlich lange! Sogar nach nunmehr fast 10 Monaten Gebrauch funktionieren die Original-Batterien noch immer! Und noch ein PS: Auch nach fast 20 Monaten funktioniert der Öffnungs- und Schließmechanismus noch immer mit den Origialbatterien - und das, obwohl es sehr häufig auch zu einem unbeabsichtigten Öffnen (und Schließen) beim Vorbeigehen kommt. Erstaunlich!

Good size for our kitchen. Good motion detection. Quickly open and slowly close. I’m satisfied with my order.
