I package a quarter cup of beans with a quarter cup of freeze dried meat with a quarter cup of mixed vegetables (harmony house vegetable soup mix is great). On the trail I add a half a bouillon cube to a little over a cup of water, add my prepackaged ration, a quarter cup of instant rice and a table spoon of instant mash potatoes with cheese and bacon and let it set for 10minutes **Q: We are backpacking and do not want to cook anything but water. If you add boiling water to these and let it sit for 15 minutes, will they be soft?** A: It can be done, they will soften but MAY have crunchy parts and it may take more than 15 min if not simmering. **Q: How many calories are there in each pouch?** A: Roughly 400.
