Great value and good charger
Works great, easy to use and use it mainly to bring my car battery back to full strength as I don't use it that often. I like the mounting bracket. Mounted it on my wall, but I did add a spacer underneath it because the charger gets pretty warm/somewhat hot, thus allowing air flow all around it. The small size & weight is great. The alligator clips are very good and adhere to the battery very well. Its obviously slower that my large 10 amp charger as should be expected, so if your looking for faster recoveries and less need for a trickle charger, get the 10 amp version. I am leaning into getting one to replace my old 10 amp charger.

Great compact charger when car needs a quick battery charge
Really impressed with this charger. It’s super easy to use—just hook it up and it pretty much does everything on its own. I like that it works with both 6V and 12V batteries and even different types like AGM and lithium, so it’s pretty versatile. It’s also compact but still powerful, and I’ve used it to bring a weak battery back to life without any issues. The automatic maintenance mode is a nice touch too since you can leave it connected without worrying about overcharging . Overall, solid build, reliable performance, and great for keeping your car or motorcycle battery in good shape.

Great value and good charging
Great compromise between price and usability. A full charge on a depleted battery may take 24 hrs or so but the lower rating allows me to use it with a 100 ft heavy gauge extension chord without worries. I would not want a smaller unit and a larger draw unit would make me worry about using an extension chord. Great and reliable unit.

REPAIR MODE // Compared to an older Noco Genius G3500; using for Solar/PV battery bank
Update (2/15/23): Used this 5A Noco on my car battery the other day. The battery is 4 years old, and the car gets drive at most, once a week, so not ideal for battery health. Once a year (annually), I try to charge the battery. When I hooked it up, and ran it in normal charging mode, it quickly finished (within five minutes). I switched over to repair mode, which applies a small pulsing current, and ran it for two cycles (repair mode shuts off after 4 hours), so 8 hours total. Using a battery tester (measures battery resistance), the overall health improved after 8 hours. So the repair mode definitely does something different than the regular charging mode. Summary: I have had a NOCO Genius G3500 charger since 2017, and it's a great charger. Recently started building a solar/PV battery bank from old marine (Optima) bluetop deep cycle batteries. So the G3500 was getting a good workout, especially the repair function. So I will be comparing this next generation GEN5X1 in that role. I had ordered the GEN5X1 back in April 2021, and this past Black Friday, the GENIUS5 (5A) was on sale, so I decided to add that one. Also use the Kyzee Load Tester frequently while charging, so listing this that as well as a related product. Testing: On an old really dead Yuasa motorcycle battery. Impressively, it was at 3-4 volts, and the Noco started right up in regular (not repair) mode. Going to let this run a couple of days, and see where it ends up (not expecting it to revive this one). Recommendations: 1) In general, the slower you charge the battery the better it is for the overall longevity and lifespan of the battery. The trade off being that you might have to charge a really dead battery for a couple of days. For batteries less than 100AH (the Optima I was testing on is 55AH), a 5-AMP charger is a good middle ground. 2) Having a good battery tester is also a must, I can recommend either of the two below. Pros: Good fit & finish; repair function; name brand recognition; constant product improvement. Cons: None for now. Conclusion: At $70, rating this 5-stars. If you need onboard mounting, get the onboard model instead. Reliable and Efficient Battery Charger but no Instruction Guide Included
The NOCO GENIUS5 does exactly what it’s supposed to do. It charges my older vehicle’s battery quickly and efficiently. I noticed it works faster and more reliably than the cheaper charger I own. It’s is more compact, well-built, and feels like a quality product that’s designed to last. However, I do wish it came with an instruction guide explaining its functions and indicators. As someone who isn’t particularly knowledgeable about cars, having clear instructions would have made things easier. My cheaper charger actually came with a very helpful guide, so I was a bit surprised that this one didn’t. I ended up having to look online to make sure I was using it correctly and safely. Another thing I notice is that the button is not as intuitive. There's a delay when pressing the button. That said, once I understood how it worked and managed my patience, it performed flawlessly. I just wish the user guidance matched the quality of the device itself.

NOCO GENIUS5 compared to Schumacher SP1296
I've used Schumacher SP1296 trickle chargers for many years now, on multiple vehicles and pieces of equipment. Recently I switched all of them to the NOCO GENIUS5 and it's better in every way! On all of the Schumacher chargers I've had, (and that's been a LOT of them) the cord has eventually frayed and broken where it exits the charging unit. On the NOCO, the cord has a rubber reinforcement where it exits the unit, extending the life of the cord. I've included photos of the NOCO (black) and the Schumacher (red) for reference. The Schumacher chargers I've had were dependable and functioned well, but their cord design was a major design flaw for me. Multiple times, It forced me to replace the units before I should have needed to buy new ones. The NOCO is slightly heavier and more compact in size than the Schumacher. The control has more functions and is easy to use. The NOCO display is aesthetically more pleasing and easier to read than the Schumacher. The NOCO also has an on/off switch which is nice. I always use the eyelets to connect to the battery. The charger connection to the eyelet cord has a click type plug to lock it in place, unlike the Schumacher which just presses together. Should you want to use the battery clips, the NOCO clips are bigger and stronger than those on the Schumacher. The only negative aspect of the NOCO that I found was that, according to their user manual, "This product is designed to work in ambient temperatures between -4°F and 104°F". This has not been a problem for me, even when used outside in northern Vermont. It does get below zero here, but typically not for extended periods of time. As long as the charger is kept on the battery, and it's always fully charged, that temperature limitation hasn't been an issue for me. Overall, the NOCO GENIUS5 appears to be a higher quality and better built charger than the Schumacher SP1296. I am very satisfied with their product, and I highly recommend it.

Worked well for 4-1/2 years
I used this a lot over the last 4-1/2 years, had to repair the power cord twice because I damaged it, and had to chop off the quick connect connector on the DC output a few months ago because it failed. That was after a little over 4 years of use. It did what I needed it to well, and the ability to charge DEAD batteries was a lifesaver more times than I could count. Well, it has finally given up the ghost. Upon cracking the case open, there's a bit of char/soot on the inside, but I can't spot anything obvious that failed, so I suspect something shorted out and fried some other parts. There was slight corrosion, I might add, likely because of moisture ingress. For something that I left out in the rain a lot, that's not shocking. It seems the housing was not perfectly water tight though. However, I noticed a few things worth noting on the inside. Most everything in there was potted, and the PCB was potted onto the base of the housing to dissipate some heat. There is a small thermistor mounted in the strain relief boot on the DC output side, quite far from the battery... There were EMI filters on the DC output. I will likely be ordering another one.

Fantastic charger with options for many different batteries
This is a fantastic charger, with support for different battery types (including 6v) and a connector to detach for different battery connection needs. I have a 30+ yr old truck that we don't drive very much, so the battery is often discharged. Our old, large charger stopped working, so I bought this as a smaller option. The eye terminals can be attached to the battery/vehicle directly and left under the hood, then just plugged into the charger when you want to charge it back up. The 5A charge isn't super-speedy, but I knew that going in, so I use this to charge overnight and the battery is ready to go by the morning. If you need faster charging, look for a version of this product that offers more charging power. Once charging is complete, it will stay in maintenance mode and maintain the charge, so you can get it started way in advance and you'll still be good. It's very easy to use, with only one button to control selection of the battery type and/or charge mode. It's not complex, but always takes me a few attempts to find repair mode. Press and hold for 3 seconds to switch to a 6V battery. Press and hold for 5 seconds to switch on Force mode, which you'll need if the battery is really dead (under 1V) - that will attempt to charge even without sensing the battery is connected. To get to repair mode, you'll have to be connected to the battery, in standby, then press and hold for 5 sec, which I think starts both Force and Repair. This is small and light enough to store in your glove box, and can be tucked into a small corner of the engine compartment so you can close the hood while it charges. I like Noco products - they're well worth the price for high quality gear.

Love it, held up over two years so far or monthy use
I've had this item for 2 years now. And I have to say it is one of the best purchases I've made. Background: I have a older car, that's kept outside here in toronto, The winter's here can be pretty bad. My car battery is not the greatest, and I found my battery was always draining. Constantly needed a jump. I looked at the big suitcase backpack looking ones, that CAA uses, then I saw this tiny noco. I'm glad I took the risk, it's paid for itself many times. Pros: it works. It's boosted my car, when the battery was completely dead. -The safety feature, meaning the electrics won't flow, if it's on the wrong positive or negative, was nice for those times when I was in a rush not paying attention -my model had a boost mode, so when I would activate it, it would force start my battery. -very quick. I always feel a little less than human, with people judging me when I have to jumpstart my car, I'm sure nobody cares, but I still feel a bit inadequate. This jump starts my car almost immediately. -this thing is tiny, I keep it in my glove box, it does what those huge jumper boxes that the professionals have, but since technology is so fantastic, they're able to make it so small but so powerful -I'm really impressed with the charge, I charged it once and it lasted over a year, with monthly use. I did recharge it just to be safe at the end of the first year. But I probably could have left it and it would have worked fine, there is a battery indicator as well. Cons: When I pull it out to help strangers restart their car, they look at me a little bit crazy thinking this little item can help. Then they ask me, where they can get one minutes later :) Recommendation: If you're someone who needs to jumpstart their car regularly, this thing is a lifesaver. Not only am I able to jumpstart my car when I need it fast and safely, I was able to help other strangers, simply because there wasn't a lot to hook up. It's a small unit and putting it on someone else's car, and jumping it takes a few minutes. I would 100% buy it again.

Great charger
Don’t have experience with battery tenders/chargers, this is my first. But I can say very well built compact size. Intuitive setup. Using it to maintain my jeep wrangler AGM 70AH battery as I travel a lot don’t drive the car that much. Update: It has been amazing after few overnight charges the battery recuperated and seems to be back to its full swing. Starting the car now is seamless.
