Wrong item shipped
I see now that this seller sells both the belt-driven generator, and a "friction" driven generator whose description matches what I received. So likely the error was wrong item shipped, rather than intentional bait and switch. Both items are priced the same.

Poor design
Not convenient enough to use regularly. Not resigned to be set up with a bike frame permanently. Seems like the worst of both worlds.
