With the casing around it, there is no fall, nor water, nor dust that can damage the device. I managed to break mine because I had it on my keys and when I would plug it in, the USB connection bent from the weight of my keys. I therefore went to a samsung unibody design. I believe if you avoid putting weight on the USB connection itself, the USB should last for the lifetime of your use. **Q: Do you have a 2.0 version. My work computer is 2.0 but home is 3.0.** A: Should be backward compatible. Will work out well for you when you use it on systems with USB 3.0. **Q: What is the max temperature it can withstand? Is it fire proof or retardent?** A: Most likely it is not fire proof or fire retardant. It is a regular USB with a very strong screw on aluminium cover. It is water proof with an "o" ring.
