Should do. Be careful it is not to tight to restrict blood flow. Easiest way is probably cap refill. (I'm former SAR and Emergency Medical Technician. *Before* use press toenail till it turns white. Let go. It normally takes 1-2 seconds. Note time for you. Do it again after you wrap up leg. It should be the same. If it takes longer then it may be too tight. Check again every twenty minutes. Any numbness, tingling, pins and needles or colour change in leg below strapping *immediately* release it.

Sorry I only bought the pads and not the strap. However the pads are excellent.

Are these safe to use around food in a cool box?

I am sure it is safe if the product is used as intended and manufacturers instructions have been followed. My gel pack is used almost daily and its always in the freezer. For extra safety place the product in a plastic bag whilst in the freezer. I would say that it is best to discard the product if the outer packaging shows any wear to it and cracks or leaks are visable.
