The arms automatically close onto the phone once you push it onto a mechanical button on the surface of the cradle. Easy to place in one handed which is what I wanted. Wireless charging means no messing with cables when you should concentrating on traffic etc. The best phone holder and charger I have ever had in the car. Fits to windscreen exteremly securely. It's winter so cannot comment on summer performance at staying on the screen. Adjustment of arms very flexible and easy to do.
