However, that being said. fully open unloads the spring tension which may allow longer spring life. comes down to personal choice. **Q: Has anyone used this on leather? I have an 8" Osborne divider that works well, but I could use a shorter one.** A: It can be used on any material. The legs are not pointed. They are rounded over (thus the name "Flat Leg Divider" ) It is better for measuring than it would be for marking. **Q: What is the maximum diameter ball can this measure?** A: 6 and 5/16 inch jaw capacity says what it means. **Q: Minimum open space that can measure?** A: Mine will measure from 0 up to 6 1/2 inches.
