The fact that it is a laser is good since aligning with IR would be impossible. The sensor can be directly connected to a relay board and the relay will close when the beam is broken. I suggest a 12v relay and 12v for the sensor and emitter. It will send a signal every time the beam is broken thru a 3rd wire. You do have to have a counter or something attached to accept the signal **Q: what is the switching speed of the npn receiver?** A: The actual switching time is about 2-3 microseconds on the one I've bought, but the minimum "break" time it responds to reliably seems to be at about 10 milliseconds with a 10K load resistor. you could probably increase the sensitivity with a larger load resistor but I haven't tried. **Q: This product is not infrared!. it is red laser dot. do you have one that is really infrared (>800nm)?** A: I don't have one, sorry.
