Cost is high but the product is great.

A little fishy. I didnt realize they were packed in oil when I bought them. I got to make pickled herring. Added extra onion and lemon to the jar. Turned out fantastic. Perfect bite sized pieces of fillet.

I like taste , quality and flavor. Service was also fast and very efficient. Excellent taste . I think they should add more options with packages size and weight of herring . I would buy bigger packages. Bring more options !

First of all while I was waiting for delivery I found the exact product and was shocked at the price of the product. The same size and product was $3.49 for the same exact item and I paid $43.00 for two packages. I have the receipt to prove my claim When we ate the herring from the first package, the fish tasted very soft and slimy. After two hours my husband and I were sick in the bathroom. Needless to say everything got trashed and I would never order this from you again. A complete waste of $43.00

I was craving raw herring after coming back from Amsterdam but was surprised to find one pack of these to be overly expensive. The fish itself tasted extremely salty. I had to pair it chopped tomatoes and other non-salty ingredients to balance out the flavor. It was nice to relieve my cravings for Dutch street food, but I won’t be buying again.

Just delicious, and ready to eat.

Love the matjes herring but did not receive the chocolats

This “Matjes herring” was unlike any Matjes herring I have ever tasted, and was altogether disappointing. First, texture: The texture of the filets was very tough and chewy, not soft, as they should be. One should be able to “spread” the Matjes filet across a cracker, in order to cover the cracker fully; this was impossible with these filets. Second, Taste:: These filets were barely saturated with the spicy salty/sweetness I expect with typical Scandinavian Matjes herring! In fact, they tasted more like a garden-variety pickled herring from the supermarket than the gourmet delicacy I anticipated! Of course, this herring comes from Belarus, which is not Scandinavia; but still, they call it “Matjes,” which is supposed to mean something! I almost consider this to be deceptive advertising — and at a greatly inflated price! Third, Packaging: the foiled plastic bags were extremely inconvenient to use, and very difficult to open! I decided immediately to discard the bags, and put the herring into a glass jar in the fridge. Ultimately, our of desperation with my disappointment in the herring’s taste and texture, I added some spices that I know to be in “classic” Matjes herring, and put the herring into the refrigerator to marinate properly! When we ate these several days later, the taste had improved somewhat, but the texture was still too firm and tough for real Matjes. My conclusion: Don’t waste your money on this brand! Pay a little more, and go with a Scandinavian “Classic” Matjes Herring. I will never buy this brand again!
