I use it only for yogurt to separate the whey from the creamy curds. Problem is, it takes forever to drain and the whey comes out with yogurt in it. Just a little, but not clean and pure as it does when using cheese cloth. I hated wasting the cheese cloth and thought this would be the solution. With cheese cloth I get a better result though. At least this doesn’t take up tons of cabinet space like the other items available for this task. Do I like it? I use it to strain yogurt and it does a fantastic job. No waste since the yogurt slides right off after straining, unlike cheesecloth. So easy to clean, wash with soapy water and air dry. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Nylon vs cotton for straining yogurt *by C***Y on Reviewed in the United States on May 24, 2020* I bought both the nylon mesh and the cotton one of these because I like the way my cotton muslin cheese cloth filters the whey from my yogurt, but it's harder to clean. I like these because the wire rim allows me to put it over a container without using a colander or wire mesh strainer to hold a cheesecloth. I was looking for a 2-quart capacity and not needing the additional colander underneath made the larger capacity possible.Nylon cleaning: you can just spray it clean and hang it to dry. If there are dried-on bits of yogurt you may need to use a sponge to loosen it up, but it doesn't take much work.Nylon filtering: a tiny bit of milk solids come through the strainer when I first pour the yogurt into it, but only at the start. The resulting whey is a little cloudy, but not "milky". My old cotton cheese cloth filters out all the milk solids, so comparatively this doesn't strain as well, but the ease of cleaning makes up for it.Nylon capacity: I used this over the top of a 6-quart round pot with a diameter of 11.5 inches. I poured 2 quarts of yogurt into the strainer and it just barely fit. Some other reviewers have said that this strainer is just flat and doesn't have much of a dip to allow the yogurt to pool, but mine did. The cotton Tenrai strainer does have a larger capacity than the nylon one does, even with the same diameter.Nylon vs cotton: my old muslin cheese cloth must have a tighter weave than the cotton used in the Tenrai strainer, because the cotton strainer still let a tiny bit of milk solids through, much like the nylon one. I don't know if that will change over time as the natural fiber ages or not. Maybe it will become better, who knows. The cotton does have a larger capacity than the nylon. When it comes to straining, they're about the same. Cleaning-wise they're also about the same as long as you don't let the yogurt dry on it. If it's still wet, just spray them off in the sink and hang dry.
