Mountain 8201 R-12 to R-134a Conversion Quick Connect Coupler Set

I bought these to go with my Yellow Jacket manifold gage set when working on automotive AC. The red adapter connects directly to the red hose (high side) and the blue one connects directly to the blue hose (low side). Now the yellow hose on your gage set is the one that connects to your vacuum pump or refrigerant can/tank. The yellow hose usually doesn't need an adapter to connect to your vacuum pump, but it will need an adapter to connect to a can tap valve if u have a manifold gage set such as the Yellow Jacket 42006 series. This comes included in this conversion kit and is the one shown in the image of the can tap. So you are pretty much covered for R134A work with this kit.If you are a DIYer and are planning to get yourself a whole set up for working on your car's AC system, then this is my suggestion. This is the set up I bought and it works excellent for me. I didn't buy the most expensive equipment out there, but I did buy good stuff. This is my list and it should be bullet proof for you too1. They work for most applications but not for our pt cruiser had to buy a better brand with the pressure release built into the valve this type would not connect on the high side without a release it just kept popping back off never fully connected.

Ordered a set and they arrived as pictured with full red-colored fittings and in a commercial hanging display blister-pack, with the "Mountain" brand logo as shown in some reviewers pics. Unfortunately, the high side would not completely seal to the car's port, letting some of the refrigerant escape as I tried to charge, wasting it, and making something of a mess.I returned that set and reordered. Good part, price had dropped $2; bad part, couplings are not actually colored to indicate which is which, they just each have a strip of tape that will likely come off at some point. Of course, the fittings are sized so they can only connect to the correct port, so that's not such a big deal, just a slight annoyance...if they work. The replacement fittings are also only 6-ball connectors, rather than 8-ball, like the first set, so that's another thing to make me wonder if they're a lower quality. The fact that they also came in a rather generic cardboard container, although it's stamped with the brand logo, makes me also fear that they might be counterfeits. They shipped from a different vendor ("The General Store", delivery was pretty quick) than the first set.The car I was working on is a granddaughter's, so I don't immediately have it available to check to see how the new set performs. If they actually function well when I do use them, I'll come back and revise the review a bit.

These work great ! One reviewer said he found the easiest way to put these on and he was right. Just push them on and they snap perfectly into position. I bought the other ones, before I bought these, with the big blue and red knobs on them to open and close them, but they only had 5 and 6 balls retrospectively, low to high side, but these have 8 balls , both high and low, and apparently that's a big deal because I had to fight the 5 and 6 ballers while these pop on and off with ease. I had to replace the old 5 and 6 ball fittings because I was afraid I was going to damage my line set while fighting to get them on. I wish I hadn't bought the other ones. These are only about 5 dollars more and the difference in that 5 dollars, is like night and day.

I was very pleased with the delivery response. It came within 3 days(to Ohio at the time). The couplers do not look like the picture in Amazon, but they worked just fine. They snapped onto the A/C system connections solidly and released easily.One thing I noticed while pulling vacuum was that the low side coupler would leak if it was pulled askew by the low side gauge hose. So be aware that these couplers have to seat squarely on their mating A/C system ports. I don't know if this is a general problem with the R-134a coupler/port design. With this in mind I like these couplers. They are well made and easy to use. The release rings are not colored as shown in the picture. Instead they have red and black bands on a silver colored release ring.

I ordered these as a replacement for some other brand I purchased earlier, here on Amazon based on the reviews. The other brand didn't fit correctly on the ports of my GM cars and they didn't hold pressure or a vacuum in the hoses either when tested. These Mountain brand connectors work great. I put a vacuum on both the high and low sides of my manifold and it held rock solid over a day with these adapters attached. And I have no problems attaching these to the ports on my vehicles. I highly recommend these connectors.
