The HVAC technician offered to replace the old capacitor and clean the blower motor blades for $1100, and we said we'd do it ourselves. Hard to say how much the capacitor alone saved us, but suffice it to say, it was probably several hundred dollars. That said- it should be noted, it seems that this capacitor was fully charged when it arrived. I typically wear boots with fairly thick rubber soles, as well as Maxiflex gloves which have a thick nitrile layer, when handling line voltages (120VAC). With this level of protection, while not technically rated for 120VAC, I can touch live/line sides of 120VAC circuits and not feel anything, not even so much as a tingle. But when installing this new capacitor, wearing these boots and gloves, I attached the wires' terminal connectors by hand, and used my index finger to firmly press them in place. When I pressed the first of them into place, nothing unusual happened. But when I pressed the second terminal into place, I felt a slight zap, through the gloved finger. This suggests that I was bridging at least 300 volts to ground, which really surprised me.
