Review: Very helpful book for beginner fine motor skills. - I got this for my 4 year old, who is a lefty AND has some trouble with fine motor skills. This book was extremely helpful to him, as a kid who could not cut AT ALL. In preschool, as the other kids were slowly learning to cut, he could only make small snips, so he was pretty far behind the other kids. He also gets discouraged very easily; as in, he would cry at the first mistake. This book starts so basic, and slowly ramps up the difficulty, so he was able to slowly learn to cut without getting frustrated. The book begins as straight lines down a page, then some curves, then zigzags, and then slowly branches out into other simple shapes, swirls and paths. My son liked looking forward to the next page to see what challenge he would face, since each page is a little harder than the last. Near the end, there are 2 cut and paste activities. We do a page almost every night, and we are down to the final 6 pages. His cutting has improved dramatically, and this is the only book we've been using. He can now continually cut down the page, stopping to switch directions and curving along swirls. It comes with 2 sheets of gold star stickers, and a chart in the back. My son enjoyed adding a sticker each night that he was done with his "homework". There are more stickers than needed for this book, so we will keep using them as we graduate to a more difficult scissor skill book. This book was so helpful to us, but my son was very, very far behind the other kids his age. If your child can cut at all, this book will probably be too easy.
