Has anyone used this for Indian Style cooking? Like making chutney and stuff?

Yes, you can use the smaller cup attachment for chutney preparations. I didn’t try making chutney yet. I used this food processor for shredding carrots and slicing vegetables. Only downside being for a Indian cooking we need a vegetable dicing attachment. It didn’t come with that. I really feel limited with the use of my food processor due to limited versatility.

Is this a reasonably quiet machine? I've had one that you couldn't talk over the noise.

Hi Lois - in my opinion this food processor is nice and quiet. Some (harder) things I've put in it create more noise but the motor itself is quiet and smooth.

How does the small bowl work? When it's attached, is there a seal so that the big bowl doesn't get dirty?

The big bowl stays clean and doesn't have to be washed. i've used the bowl to chop onions, nuts, and celery-- does a great job.
