I've had the Whirlpool refrigerator in my weekend home for 20 months, where we use less water than if we were there everyday. The change filter light just came on for the 2nd filter, so I got 10 months out of each filter, not 6. **Q: Why did they raise the price so much? I got this for less than $30 few months ago.** A: While I agree that the EveryDrop filters are priced too high (and unfortunately they keep going up), the first answer from D. Selvage is correct as to why they are more costly. The Everydrop filter does much more than the cheaper filters, reducing many contaminants that the others let through. (And the published data on Amazon and elsewhere from honest less expensive brands will not deny that fact.) EveryDrop meets NSF/ANSI Standards 42, 53 & 402 while the less expensive do not. If the extra filtration is not needed, then go for the less expensive filters. I prefer better filtration due to concerns about public water supplies running through ancient infrastructure. As for the poster who said the filters contained lead, that's incorrect. However, lead is one of the contaminants the EveryDrop filters remove (thankfully). Furthermore, there is no Prop 65 warning on EveryDrop's packaging. **Q: Has anyone else had problems with fit lately? I have purchased this filter before and not had a problem til now.** A: I have a Whirlpool model ED5PBAXVY00 which this filter is supposed to replace. However although the filter snapped into place, the water dispenser trickled out very slowly, if at all. I measured the difference between the old working filter and the new, and noticed that the little white guide post or detent is a smidge longer on the replacement filter. (A smidge in this case is approximately 1/16 of an inch or .05" or 1.27mm.) I used a utility knife to shorten the post to match the old filter. I inserted the adjusted filter into the fridge and heard the rush of water filling the cartridge. Success!
