The lids have a double-lip to seal tightly. I have admired my friend's set for years and finally asked him what they were and bought my own set. I had read some reviewer's comment that they are not made in Italy; they are stamped on each piece that they are made in Italy. I can't vouch for their durability in a microwave, as they're too nice to risk! I have some decades-old Nordicware pieces for that purpose. I'm uploading a photo of the instructions, which seem to indicate that the bowls can be used for freezing but NOT for microwaving above 158 degrees.I really like that you can stack all four bowls and their covers together so that they take up no more room than the largest bowl. ### ⭐ Watch out they Leak! *by C***S on January 11, 2014* WOW was i ever bummed when my soup that i went to put in the freezer leaked ALL over the place.I thought maybe i did not put the lid on correctly, but no these do NOT hold seal .
