It works after careful preparation- negative reviews are user error.

Anyone rating this less than 3 stars is doing so because of user error. That said, the instruction are kinda inconclusive so it's going to require some critical thinking skills to get right.I only got this wrong once, on my initial try so let me leave some best practices:¹) When setting up the rollers and scoring wheel, all you need to do is lay the bottle down and adjust until all roller wheels and the scorer touch equally. Take the bottle off, tighten everything but the scorer. Raise the scoring wheel 2mm then tighten.²) The L bracket you attach to the rear that folks find too flimsy is guaranteed user error. Think about the pressure when the bottle is pressing against it and then realize the first tightening knob needs to be as forward as possible to minimize flex.³) Speaking of pressure. Once you are ready, use both hands to apply even down force on the bottle and then slowly rotate the bottle allowing yourself to hear the scoring wheel doing its job. Do not try and use the L bracket as a be all end all stopper or it will flex and you wont have a clean scoring line.In the end that's what you want to achieve - a single scored line. You dont want to rotate fast... the average bottle should take around 20-30 seconds to rotate only once. Just keep a decent amount of pressure with both hands rotating the bottle inward (if the bottle was free it would roll towards you, not away is the correct direction to roll it). The second the scoring line matches back up your hear the scoring wheel scratch the glass in a new way. You're done. Now I didnt follow their directions at all for much of the actual water finish. What I did was place both rubber gasket bands next to each other instead of sandwiching the scored line. I placed them between my hand holding the base of the bottle and the scored line within less than a centimeter.I used the bands as a way to block the hot water from running down the bottle onto my hand. Now the water itself. I filled a kettle and got it almost to boiling (steaming a lot) then ran a large plastic bowl under my faucet with cold water constantly running into the bowl. I would slowly pour hot water onto the scored line counting to 20... the rubber bands blocking the water from running down the bottle to my hand holding it. Then I would stop pouring the hot water and the put the scored line section under the cold water for 10 seconds. Then back to pouring hot water for 20 seconds. I only needed to repeat once for it to work every time. The bottle splits and falls into the plastic bowl safely.I then use sandpaper I bought and do the wet method with the sandpaper covered in water at all times to collect any glass dust. Make sure you apply enough pressure here as well. 80 grit until the bottom is flat and dull, but the edges are still jagged internally and externally. Then 150, then 220 then 400.... after 400 you could stop and go on to repeat for the inner and outer edges... that is sufficient to be safe, but I continue and do 1000 and then finally 2000. Once that is done, repeat the order for the inner and out edges. The photo here is of my second glass I attempted. It has soap only because once I took the top off I realized there was green mold and had to wash it... which was a bit dangerous since the edges were brand new. I'm including the photo to show exactly what that scored line should look like. This is a great starter kit - get it!You'll have a professional lip in about 20 minutes for every glass if you are diligent and dont pause much.

    UPDATED Review

*by G***W on Reviewed in the United States on June 16, 2022*

Update 7/24/22 This seller refunded my money. He did NOT have to. He didn’t owe anything to me. He simply chose to. I didn’t expect any money back, much less to keep a product I haven’t paid for. I missed the return date. Life happens to all of us.If you’re having trouble with your cutter, maybe try buying a new blade? Or sharpening what you have? That’s the only thing I didn’t try that I can think of.The main thing I want you to know is this seller has integrity. I would buy from him. I felt so bad when I learned he’d refunded my money. Even though I would’ve returned it,I could’ve been more tactful. I let grief color my behavior, and I apologize.—————— This is utter garbage. I missed the return because my son has been sick for over a month, and for 2 weeks I was speaking with doctors almost daily. I was concerned about going to the ER, not about a return. That’s the ONLY reason I still own this and can review it.However, I believe some people get decent cutters, but some of us are getting useless junk like the one I have.I read to “Have patience”. So how many times should the bottle be turned to qualify as having patience? 10? 20? 50? I don’t know how many times I turned them, but 20 is a safe starting point. The glass was etched. Made no difference. I tried different types of bottles (thicknesses) - nope. I thought maybe a thinner bottle was the answer. It broke easier, but 90% perfect is still 10% disaster which = 100% trash.I’m a beginner who is VERY good at crafts and using tools. I can read and execute diy instructions. I followed these instructions repeatedly on various bottles, and I went to You Tube and tried ideas that improved the heating and cooling of the glass. I got not one decent cut. Bottles even spiderwebbed away from the etching, and they broke completely off the etching. I’d get a mostly good break, but it would still be unusable.I sat (and wore eye protection) so I could see that I was staying straight as I turned the bottle. I heard the grinding and even tried etching deeper. One pass was useless, so I made many. Standing up, I was much more likely not to stay right in the etching line as I made further revolutions. I also wet a paper towel and put under the bottle to catch the glass dust. (Further evidence I was etching the glass.)The metal brace to hold the bottom of the bottle in place is flimsy and easily gave. I had to brace it, because if I relied on it, I would’ve had a crooked line.Ignore the condescending reviewers who say you just need to be consistent, and their cutter worked the first time. Whatever. No, they aren’t smarter than the rest of us. They didn’t have the same low quality of cutter.I’d hoped to cut some bottles for planters, but that’s not going to happen. I’m going to look for a better quality of cutter.

    Practice makes Perfect

*by T***Y on Reviewed in the United States on February 28, 2020*

Item came with so many accessories and protective items, great quality for the price. The instructions were very precise, however this takes some practice before getting it right. Scoring the line takes practice to keep the line straight, however adjustments can be made to get it perfect. It can take more than 4 times going between boiling water and cold water, be patient and do not be in a hurry or the bottle can shatter above the score line. I had aprox 6 bottles shatter while trying to get it right. I am still working on getting a bottle cut at and on the score line, this product will be amazing when I get the hang of it. I have an entire list of projects to do with the cut bottles
