Prime-Line U 10306 Surface Bolt, Brass (Single Pack)

After reading some of the reviews here, I nearly decided against these surface bolts. I've used Prime-Line products before and have always had a good experience. I am refinishing all of the interior doors in my home. I changed the color of my hardware and that facilitated changing out the old surface bolts that I had installed on my three sets of double doors. Just 15 minutes ago, I installed the first of the three and everything went as expected. All of the negative reviews written were not representative of my experience. I think that many times people have no idea how to properly install stuff like this. Take your time, make sure measurements are correct, drill PILOT holes and then install. I used my power impact driver with no problem, but if you have trouble controlling power tools I would suggest driving the screws by hand, it would be easy to strip out the small screw heads. The hardware installed easily and works very well. I know that there can be an occasional bad unit, but in my case it all worked very well. If I have any issues installing the other two sets, I will come and edit this review.

If you pencil out the location, pre-drill holes w/ 1/16" bit, do not use drill to tighten screws, and have proper 2 small size chisels, this were easy to install and look nice. They operate well too. Esp like having both plates for inside, or outside frame installation. If you do not pre-drill holes, or use too large drill bit, or try to use drill to tighten the screws, you increase your chances of screwing it up. I saw some reviews about how screws were too small... they are just right for a non-security installation if installed properly. I bought two. I also have a 3rd exterior french door I needed this for, yet I bought the $38 one on Amazon that is heavy duty.

These were great at first. Until the summer came and because humidity, maybe?... they won’t shut. Looks as if they shifted just enough to make it so the lever will not meet the eyelet properly to shut. UPDATE: changed rating from 1 to 4 stars since they were a pain at first but now work fine. So, as of september 2020 they have adjusted enough to open and close as needed. Summer and winter. Sometimes we have to lift the door some but I guess that’s to be expected with wood swelling from humidity. Nothing that I can’t work with. In winter I pull the door up ever so slightly and lock glides smoothly. It’s nowhere near as tough to slide as it was when we first installed them. It protects us and keeps us safe. Keeps the kids from getting out onto the deck since they can’t reach it. Overall... Happy with it.

The enclosed mounting screws were too big. The screw head must fit flush or below to slide the latch. It simply will not slide. I contacted the manufacturer and was advised to send a email, photos and receipt. I complied and received a reply stating I must screw in at 90° I did and sent a screen shot of other customer with same complaint. The screw head will not sit flush. I give up. I am requesting the manufacturer send the correct screws.

Some other reviewers said the screws were finicky/weak and/or it was difficult to get them flush so the bolt would slide. I didn’t find that to be the case. I drilled the pilot holes as recommended in the instructions and then used a screwdriver to put the screws in. They aren’t 100% flat but the bolt slides fine.

Decent finish, but the screws they include will *absolutely not* fit, and will block the slider from...sliding. Yes, the screw holes are recessed into the "base" of the bolt, but the screw heads are about 1mm too wide for the hollow inside the slider and it hits the screw head every single time, no matter how tight you try to screw them down! Did NOBODY at this manufacturer even *try* to install this item with the included screws before they starting selling them? A small but frustrating oversight that requires me to drive to the hardware store anyway...shoulda just bought them there! Otherwise, they slide with a bit of friction--good if you are mounting them vertically--but might free up after some use.

The clever Border Collie in my household has learned how to open our lever-handled doors, and likes to go into the pantry to get snacks. This slide bolt is our solution: we placed it high enough on the door to be beyond her reach. The bolt has a pretty smooth action, and it was nice to have both options for the catch. The satin finish looks nice, too!

le produit a une belle finition, bien solide; cependant ça ne coulisse pas facilement, il faut y pulvériser du WD-40 ou tout lubrifiant pour faciliter le mouvement.

Accidentally bought 2 as opposed to be 1, bought this bolt as one of the three options for someone to choose Was not chosen hence not installed yet, but these items seem solid comparing to another one I bought at the big box and installed ...I am keeping both and that should speak to the quality and my satisfaction

As mentioned before, mounting bolts do protrude slightly into path of sliding bolt but not a big deal. Handy as it comes with extra receiving plate for different options depending on desired use. Will buy again.
