You need to space the blocks out so there is an air gap between them. Otherwise, if the blocks are touching or very close to each other the roots can cross over between blocks creating a problem. With even spacing (of about 3/8" - 1/2") you can get 4 blocks to a row times 9 rows or a total of 36 blocks per tray. **Q: Do you have to purchase the plastic seed pins separately? If so, what size? Or, does this come with everything needed to begin seeding?** A: The Mini 4 comes with 5/8" seed pins already inserted.
