Best eq i have used to date! Buying DBX to replace others YOU CAN FEEL THE QUALITY
Purchased this unit after being frustrated with a buzz sound from my sound system, when music was paused.Disconnected my "other brand" eq and the hum went away.Purchased this DBX unit after reading many reviews. VERY HAPPY.WHen i pause the music, the system is QUIET!, the EQ allows me to adjust the sound for each environment I am in.I have now purchased 2 more DBX 15 band units to replace the "rock" EQs you see in this picture. I the HUM that I thought was a ground loop IS GONE! I spent HOURS isolating the noise. Swapping cables, running ground wires to each unit etc. All along it was the CHEAP ROCK EQs causing the issue!i have 3sets of amps and speakers depending on the environment i am in. One day i could be in a small room for a 50 person wedding. the next be playing music in a parade needing people 1 city block behind me to hear the music. ............. these DBx units are GREATBuilt SOLID, you can feel the quality! The unit has some weight, the sliders require force to move them. No more do i have to reset every time i pull the cover off my road case.FINAL FINDINGS* -- BEST EQ I HAVE USEd (over 5 different brands i have tried)* --- WOrth thE MONEY* --- SUPER QUIET (very important when you hit pause on music during an event due to an injury and the whole gymnasium is silent waiting for the performer to get up)* -- MY only regret is waiting to buy a quality item like this!

Fantastic! But it would have been better with black face.
I replaced Berlinger 15 bands with this. Boy, what a difference! I didn't expect this will make the drastic difference in sound. I just wanted to kill the squeak noise for my stereo system and the attenuator never worked. It doesn't get rid of that noise 100 % but reduce the annoying squeak without compensating the quality of overall sound.Adding review:The high pitch squeak noise is mostly coming from voice replay of soprano and tenor, and high note of violin of orchestra. It is not constant noise, very brief moment on intense volume of singing of high note or orchestra. It drove me nuts for over last twenty years and tried everything to get rid of that from high price amplifier to speakers. But noting works and I never even thought of adding equalizer because it is used mostly sound recording, not listening.Berlinger worked but at the cost of losing the sound integrity. So I gave a chance to this dbx, and I was amazed how it works beautiful.I don't hear any noise while playing Beethoven no. 6 without losing the original sound integrity. The noise is from mostly the 3.15 K.It made my day!!!!!This dbx is the best thing I can imagine.I still can hear slight noise on vocal but I can live with it.Thanks dbx.

Amazing piece of kit
I’ve been an audiophile purist ("straightwire with gain") for decades and have owned various bits of Class A and B gear from Apogee Stage/Audiophysik Sparks/Accoustat 1100/Proac SC1/Audio Research VT100/Audio Research VT60/McCormack DNA1 Deluxe/VPI turntables, etc. Anyway, the reason for me listing all my gear is that out of all these thousands of $ worth of equipment, this little dbx 231S has been arguably the most rewarding. It’s near silent in the audio chain and gives me incredible control over the waveform coming out of my speakers. I can’t imagine not having this equalizer in any current or future set up. At this low price, it’s a no-brainier. Get it.

Really helps correct Room Response
I have a FBQ1502 in my stereo. Its a nice EQ but did not have the resolution needed to correct my room response. I replaced the FBQ1502 with the dbx 231s. The dbx is a fraction of a percent nosier than the FBQ. When I first connected the dbx I could hear 60Hz noise. I fixed this by using a ground isolating plug. There is still a little high frequency noise, you can hear it with the volume turned up. I EQ'd my system using an M-Audio USB-Pre I/F and Arta software. I placed the stereo mic near my listening position, set the Arta generator to pink noise, and used the Tool that shows level of 2 channels. I set the weighting to Z. First pass just make cuts to compensate for room effects. If needed add a little boost on frequencies where there are nulls. Finally use the level control to bring the sound level back to the pre-eq value.AMP : STR-D911, PL-540 TT, HRT music streamer DAC, Usher speakersLike : nice smooth sliders, build quality, solid feelDis-like : noise, hissThe hiss might be coming from the regulator.

Thrilling Sound
I bought the dbx231s through Amazon resale used "Very Good." I must say there wasn't a blemish on it, and all controls work perfectly. I connected it to my pricey stereo amp with XLR to 3.5mm adapters and the sound is thrilling! Pricewise and qualitywise, the dbx231s is the way to go.

DVX EQ
After installing alongside a couple of Rockville amps, this EQ does make a difference with a nice enhanced sound that you can work with depending on the environment.

Jeckle & Hyde
Had friends and family in bands that used these years ago, but they were not made in junk-land [CHINA].Japan/USA back in the day hands down made the best quality electronic products PERIOD.This unit came out of the box working great, performed as expected, but as other reviews have stated, unwanted noise has appeared and I have only had this a month. This has always been true with china made products of any kind, not just electronics. After 4 uses I now have a very loud and noticeable hiss on both channels. I have this paired with a QSC PLX3402 1700W Amp and an EMOTIVA TA-100 Stereo Preamp/DAC/Tuner With Integrated Amplifier. Nothing wrong with either of these as no hiss prior to using the dbx EQ.I gave it the 3 star jeckle & hyde rating as it performs as advertised but with that ugly hiss. Fortunately I bought during the holiday season I can still exchange/return thru Jan 31st.

excellent EQ , this is a must have
.DBX is owned by Harman which also makes Crown Amps and JBL - it is very high quality. You can expect long reliable service.---> Also, for anybody doing home audio and really means it with decent speakers , you should get one of these and not even consider it optional. <----A good equalizer can punch, sparkle and just generally goose the sound of the average system. The connectors on the back are XLR connectors, not the RCA you would see on a home receiver. You just have to get patch cords that convert RCA to XLR. Very easy. I bought two of these and they are a must have.I have a Sirius radio with a mini plug output going directly into two DBX 231 , seems to work ok.I bought a mini plug to dual XLR adapter and then I bought two XLR Y cables to take the signal to both DBX units. ( ALL from Amazon ).I used these cables:1) Hosa Stereo 3.5mm Male - Two XLR Male - 3m 9.9 feet - Hosa Stereo 3.5mm Male - Two XLR Male - 3m 9.9 feet2) Hosa YXM121 XLR Female To Dual XLR Male Y Cable - Hosa YXM121 XLR Female To Dual XLR Male Y CableEach DBX 231 goes to one amplifier, one is a Crown XLS 1000 the other is a QSC RMX850.The Crown powers 4 JBL JRX112 and the QSC powers 4 JBL JRX 115Sounds great.

Silent in the signal path. Practically Transparent
Amazing 1/3 octave Graphic Eq. Very quiet in signal path.. no extra hum or hiss etc. Highly recommended compared to the Behringer which is much noisier/.

Ottimo prodotto
