If you chose to cut with a electric saw, I urge you to use eye protection and wear a mask because the tiny fibers in this board can be hazardous to your lungs and eyes. Also if you get the fibers on your clothes, leave your clothes outside in the hamper not to bring the saw dust into your house. This MDF board can be painted but it needs to be primed first. it also doesn't like water, so don't get it wet cause it will warp. This project took me two days to build cause I let the glue dry overnite. (Out of the package of course)** A: If each board is 1/4 inch thick as advertised, the total combined thickness of all of the boards combined would be 1.5 inches. **Q: Is this too thick for book covers?** A: Yes. I’d recommend 1.5mm to 2mm thick chipboard for book cover boards. This is roughly 6-6.5mm thick. **Q: Do these need to be prepped in any way prior to painting them?** A: Yes! These are very absorbent and will suck up all your paint if you don’t prime them. I also use two coats with a light sanding between each coat. (Sometimes 3 coats until it’s where I want it.) once they are primed they work very well for painting. **Q: Can you sublimate on this wood?** A: Sublimation is the process of transitioning from a solid to a gas. I spent nearly 3 months on a painting that I couldn't get just right. (11 x 14). The board I was working on survived , undoubtedly, 75- 100 trips into the oven at 120-70 degrees. (I always turned the oven off after it was heated up). They are thicker than other boards I've used. I gave them a good coat of gesso for tooth.
