Great coffee and very simple! - When I read about this coffee-making method on Tim Ferriss' blog, I wasn't sure what to think. However, since my husband has claimed my Aeropress for our home, I needed a new method to make coffee at my desk at work. Since this coffee sock is so small, simple, and straightforward, not to mention cheap, I decided to give it a try. The two coffee socks arrived exactly as described. Each consists of a relatively sturdy wire frame/handle, with a natural cotton "sock" threaded onto the wide end. The cotton sock has a loop end on one side that could be used to hang it up. I was a little disappointed that the sock appears to be sewed onto the frame, so it can't be removed to wash it. Each was individually wrapped, and there were no odors or any issues that I could see, so I just rinsed them before use. Making coffee with the coffee sock is very easy. I just put a scoop of coffee into the middle of the sock, place it on top of my mug, and slowly pour hot water through until it nearly reaches the top. This takes several minutes, kind of like making a pour-over cup of coffee. The coffee in the sock remains immersed in the hot water, though, and once I'm done pouring I set a timer for two minutes. Then I remove the coffee sock, letting the remaining coffee water drip into my cup. The whole process takes maybe 5 minutes or less. Cleanup is similarly easy. I dump the coffee grounds into the compost and thoroughly rinse the coffee sock, then set it aside to dry. It is quite easy to get all the coffee out of the sock by just rinsing it. Although I had originally planned to wash the coffee socks periodically in the laundry, so far I think rinsing has done an excellent job, as I don't see, feel, or taste any residue in my next cup. This coffee-making method has zero waste, and is quick, convenient, and efficient. I plan to take the coffee sock with me when traveling and camping, as it packs up unbelievably small and light. All I need is hot water, coffee grounds, and my coffee sock. I'm 100% sold. Even my husband felt the coffee made using the coffee sock was comparable in quality to the coffee we make using the Aeropress with the Fellow Prismo permanent espresso filter (cost = $50+), although both methods extract a little differently, resulting in different flavors and aromas being prominent.
