Great drive. Fast.
This is a great drive. Very fast. I already have similar slim Blu-ray burners but I had heard that these bigger, full size drives may soon be going to way of the Dodo bird as more manufacturers are stopping making them so I wanted to pick one up to make sure I had one before that happened. I'm glad I did. It performs significantly faster than even the best slim one (Pioneer) that I have for everything (reading/writing data CDs/DVDs, music CDs, etc.). I wound up throwing it into an external USB 3 enclosure and couldn't be happier.

Works Perfectly!
This drive works flawlessly. Installation was very easy. I am using it to rip my DVD collection for Plex Media only, so I can only attest to that capability. FYI: I am using it with the external enclosure NexStar DX2 by Vantec, which was also incredibly easy to assemble and install; they go well together. This drive is also almost silent. It is also very fast when loading a disc. The "rip rate" is about 7.4 MB/sec (5.6x) for regular discs and 20.0 MB/sec (4.6x) for Blu-Ray; the rate starts slower but climbs as it copies. This is faster than the terrible USB external drive I was using and it does not cause my computer to shut down randomly and it actually reads Blu-Ray discs, unlike the (Blu-Ray) USB drive which was defective in several ways. It is more expensive than the USB drive, but well worth it.

One-stop CD/DVD/Blu-Ray Management Device
I needed this to download my disc music/movie collection into my computer and free up some storage space in my house. It works really well - went through every single CD/DVD/Blu-Ray disc in my (extensive) collection in a few hours (I expected 7-10 days, based on prior experiences with other computers). They’ve been sitting in my storage room for decades, waiting for the time to make the move to software. So glad I can claim those sq. ft. and get some old junk out of the house. Plus, I can burn, copy, reformat, watch/play, and record whatever I need into CD/DVD/Blu-ray in the future. Anything I needed from a disc - this device carried it out without a bit of stress or anxiety. No rattling, squeaking, screeching, or otherwise odd, annoying, or distracting noises to speak of. Just a fan when it’s running really fast, which I like so I know it’s running well. It’s plug-and-play - secure to the desktop tower, connect a SATA wire to the computer’s MB, connect to the power supply and it and runs (like any HDD). It has software, sure, but I go w/o it. Give it something to work on, and it has everything on screen within avg. 5-15sec. It’s good to get something that does it’s job and holds up like I expect it to for a decent price.

ASUS Blu Ray writer works excellent, and at a great price
This is the Blu-Ray drive to get if you are in the market for one!!! ASUS Blu Ray writer works excellent, and at a great price. ASUS offers a rebate for these drives on occasion, so it is in your best interest to look for this drive when they offer a rebate Go here to check: https://asus.4myrebate.com/. I was able to get a $25 rebate, albeit a bit delayed, but finally corrected due to the hard work and diligence of one Rodel L. If you have been wronged by ASUS in the past, stand by for a reply to your post(s) from Rodel L. Rodel is the real deal, and it will pay off if you work with Rodel L.. Rodel L. is from ASUS customer service has been scanning Amazon.com for people who are unhappy with their ASUS products, and he/she? is attempting to make things right! Rodel contacted me through this post, and with a little back and forth communication, I am now going to be receiving the rebate that I originally was denied due to errors on the 3rd party company that handles all of ASUS's rebates. This goes to show how much dedication exists within the ASUS family. They are looking into cold cases like mine, and making them right! Mine was almost a year old, and yet Rodel made it right for me. I have always been a proponent for their products based on my personal experience of using their products for over 15 years now, and can say without a doubt they are the best company out there for products, service, and customer satisfaction!!! Thank you Rodel for fixing my issue, and keeping me as a true believer in the products your company sells! I am an ASUS enthusiast, and end user for life!

It works. The model I recieved has minor issues.
Works as expected. Fast data transfers. No major issues with the model I recieved. No software needed. Drivers works out of box on Linux Mint. For contexts, I ordered this disc drive as a replacement to a 2011 LG model, where suddenly the drive had issues with a door opening (jammed or broken). Barely used the drive after like 2016, but I do probably once a year now. After trying to get the drive working, I decided to go for this Asus model. Since using this one within 24 hours, I experienced a minor issue with the reads on a couple of discs, probably the reason why this was resold. I works for the most part, just seems some blu-ray r's and rw's takes longer to load or needs reloading. The discs are in nearly excellent condition. Also the Asus drive I recieved is not the same as shown in the description. I suppose the only thing I have to test now is, can it burn data on discs!?

Awesome!
This honestly, is the best internal blu ray player money can buy. If you buy it there are a few things to keep in mind. It will not play 4K UHD blu rays out of the box, because the newer firmware does not support it (planned obsolescence). So in order to play them, you have to flash the bios to an earlier version (tutorials for this player exist everywhere on the internet) This is my go to player and I have never had an issue with it, exceptional value

Excellent drive, that works in Windows 10, that can read 4K movies with a firmware rollback
I bought this drive June of 2019 for the sole purpose of ripping my purchased Blu-Ray & 4K movies for personal use on my Windows 10 rig. It's worked great in that regard. You need some software to rip the disc's but you can find that via Google (the one I use is free to try and can purchased for a small donation). Yes, this drive is not advertised to read 4K movies, but it can, with a tweak of the firmware. The problem is, with the pre-loaded firmware already installed, you cannot rip 4K movies right out of the box. Google "asus bw-16d1ht firmware 4K" and you will find the necessary instructions to downgrade to the older, 4K firmware. Be sure to follow the instructions to the letter if you attempt this. I did it on the first try. The included software does not allow you to read 4K movies, but you can purchase that separately on your own as well. The drive reads Blu-Ray's just fine as well as DVD's and CD's. I have also burned a few CD-R's, DVD-R's, and BD-R's with no issues. I haven't tried M-Discs yet but I plan on buying some and trying to burn them soon. I love this drive. For the price, you can't beat it. Especially if you are looking to rip your personal 4K collection. Edit: I just moved to a new rig and will install Windows 11 soon. My new case has no disc bay so I got an external drive case. I’ll post if the drive works under Windows 11.

UPDATE #3: Down to lowest possible rating: 1-star due to poor DVD reads
Jan 2020 update: Down to lowest rating possible -- 1 star -- due to continued cruddy DVD access performance. Blu-rays continue to work really well BUT I used more DVDs than Blu-ray discs. More than half the attempts to play a DVD result in a "disc read error" that can only be fixed by multiple retrys if at all. Put that DVD in either of my two older drives (I have 3 disc drives in my main PC) and it works first-time, every time. There is something bad about this ASUS drive for DVDs that hasn't changed even after a firmware upgrade. NOT RECOMMENDED since there are plenty of other drives out there. Jul 2019 update: I am sick of the read errors from DVDs. New, scratch-free discs still get random read errors and I have to put them in a different DVD drive on my PC. EVERY ONE that I've had to do this for has read fine on the other drive(s). The ASUS drive has had ZERO problems with blu-ray discs but those are maybe 1/4 of my collection so I am constantly getting aggravated by this drive. I would recommend another brand if you want a BD and DVD drive. ===== Dec 2018 update: Received my rebate in l;ate-summer after ASUS swtiched to new processing company. However, still average review because I keep getting read errors for DVDs from this drive. NEVER Have had a problem with Blu-rays but inconsistent reads of DVDs is irritating. I wouldn't buy this drive again nor recommend it. ===== Blu-ray drive is average performer -- it has had reading problems in discs my other, older drive reads fine. The real problem is ASUS does not honor their rebate offers. I submitted and had my rebate approved in March 2018 ("4-6 weeks to process and send rebate"). Waited until June 2018 to phone and a real person apologized and promised to check into the problem and I "should get my rebate in 10-14 business days." It's now August 2018 and ASUS hasn't done diddly except ignore my follow-up e-mail sent in July 2018. If your purchase is based on price after a rebate, then please rethink it.

Very reliable, good, quality product from ASUS
This is my second purchase of ASUS BW-16D1HT device in my life (and I even have one, also great LG WH16NS60 device), and I do not have any complaints with both of those devices at all!!! Now, for the ASUS BW-16D1HT device in particular, it is officially by ASUS corp. fully Microsoft Windows 10 and Microsoft Windows 11 compatible device and do not require any additional driver installations or any similar, so just install it in your Desktop computer or in your 5.25" external case, and go. Yes, you need to additionally get/purchase a really good and versatile CD/DVD/Blu-Ray/ Millenniata (M-DISC) burning software here, like for e.g. Ahead Nero 2025, but this is quite logical here... I personally use this ASUS BW-16D1HT device for Backup purpose and to watch some bought Blu-ray discs in my house... Very reliable, good, quality product from ASUS corp. which is not a bulk product here at all - I get it from Amazon.com.be in its original ASUS box, and completely sealed!!! Inside this original box was even 4 screwdrivers to attach it in your computer case in an empty 5.25'' bay here, or in external 5.25" case. You will also get in this original box one ASUS Blu-ray optical media with optional software on it for your installations if you want: ASUS E-Green v1.01.55 (2017) software which automatically optimizes this ASUS device power consumption and display detailed information on power saved and CO2 reduced using this ASUS device. On this ASUS Blu-ray optical media you will also find: Cyberlink Power2go v8 (2018) software which is for burning CD/DVD/BD disks..., and also Cyberlink Powerbackup v12 (2018) software for full backup of your devices, and Ahead Nero BackItUp v2017 (2017) software for full backup of your devices. You will also find some document papers in this ASUS box: ASUS Webstore for 12 months unlimited data amount online backup license paper, then Ahead Nero BackItUp Pro 6 months license paper, then ASUS Warranty Card in 19 languages paper, and finally the ASUS Quick Installation guide in 36 languages paper. ... And my finally note in this of my review: On 24 January 2025, the "Alpha Bet" reviewer on Amazon.com.be here write a really good and detailed review about this same ASUS BW-16D1HT device, and I am completely agreeing with him about everything that he wrote, it just confirms my all testing's of this device also.... Thank you for this great ASUS BW-16D1HT device product!

It works!
Got it from Amazon Resale for less than 120AED! At first I was skeptical due to the low price. I even recorded the unboxing in case the item inside the box was beaten up, or if the drive inside the box was a different model. Lo and behold it's actually an Asus BW-16D1HT. Still doubtful, I connected it to my PC. Had some issues with the cable/connector. Seemed to be that some plastic bit was blocking the SATA power connector. Pushed it a little bit, turned on the PC and Windows 11 sees the bluray drive. I don't have a UHD bluray disc nor M-disc, so I cannot comment if those work. It is a bit noisy though. CD: Works DVD: not yet checked Bluray: Works UHD Bluray: unknown M-Disc: not checked

Very reliable so far. Writes to M-Discs, and CD-R discs too.
I bought two of these Blu Ray writers and installed them in two different computers (Windows 10 and 11). Windows recognized both of the drives, and automatically installed the necessary drivers. I was able to use both drives without installing any of the software that came with them. To test the drives, I inserted a Blu Ray M-Disc into one of them, and then saved about 20 gigabytes of data on it. Then I asked the computer to eject the disk. Next, I inserted the same disk into the Blu Ray drive in the second computer. It was able to read the data. It was also able to write additional data to the same disk. Out of curiosity, I also attempted to save some data to a blank CD-R disc, using this blu-ray drive, and that succeeded as well. The only shortcoming was that while Windows was able to correctly determine the amount of free space remaining on the M-disc, it greatly under-reported the amount of space that was already used. I believe this is the fault of Windows, not the drive. Based on my experience with these drives so far, I am very impressed with them, and I highly recommend them. To be clear, this review is about the ASUS BW-16D1HT blu ray writer. The M-Disc brand I used was the Verbatim BD-R 25GB 4X with Branded Surface - 25pk Spindle. The ASIN is B011PZALWA. I am using these M-Discs to archive important data. Verbatim claims that this type of disk is made with inorganic materials, so it resists deterioration and bit-rot for at least several centuries. Hence, it is far more durable than conventional DVD-R discs, which is why it is suitable for long-term data archiving.
