Can I use paper filters with the reusable filter (with/instead) though? I have read that paper filters work better and create a different taste.

Yes you can use a paper filter, but I prefers to use it instead of the reusable filter coz both filters could affect the taste and cause it too light. I don’t know if the paper filter better than the reusable filter or not but the reusable filter materials affect the taste so, I prefers the paper pulse you’ll not have to wash it every time .

Does anyone have an issue as to just how hot the coffee is, after adding just a bit of milk the coffee is drinkable straight away-not that hot?

I tend to leave the coffee in the pot on the heated stand for a good twenty minutes before drinking it. It’s piping hot then.

Does it have warranty in UK?

Yes Smeg Customer service is excellent in my experience so make sure you register your warranty. My coffee machine developed a problem and I was able to send it back by courier to be mended. It was returned to me once the problem was sorted out. I also have the Smeg kettle and similarly it developed a problem (started to leak) before the end of the two year warranty - this was sent back on the same day that the courier arrived with a brand new one
