### ⭐⭐

Mostly Plastic - Not Suitable for Stable DSLR Use

*by D***P on Reviewed in the United States on February 2, 2014*

Although this tripod will in fact support a moderately heavy DSLR/lens/flash combo, don't expect it to be very stable. Just to test it out, with more than I'd actually ever put on it, I set it up with my Nikon D700, 70-200/f2.8 VRII lens, and SB-800 flash. Using the camera's tripod thread, forget about it...no way will this tripod support such an off-center assembly. Using the lens tripod mount as should be done, it will support the assembly but is very wobbly, due in part to being almost entirely made of plastic. The legs are U-channel plastic and visibly sag under the weight of this setup. As a flash stand or for a small compact camera, the tripod would serve it's purpose sufficiently. Note that the ball is metal and knurled around the middle so that it is less prone to slipping in the plastic jaws. This was too cheap to waste time returning, but will not be used for anything more than a flash or compact camera stand. It could be used for a DSLR with smaller lens and/or flash, but would still be more wobbly than I can accept. An all-metal variation of this on the other hand, with a higher-quality ball & socket joint might be pretty nice.

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY. NOT EVEN WORTH IT FOR A QUARTER.

JUNK! I have a near exact version of this tripod that is metal that I've had and used for almost 30 years that came with a Polaroid Spectra camera. The old Polaroid was a great tripod but wearing out. I hoped this was the same but it's as cheap as it gets and 95% plastic, cheap plastic. The tightening wing-nut for the head doesn't turn more than an eighth to either loosen or tighten the ball head. The mail carrier was just a couple houses down before I noticed it didn't work. Very disappointed. I wouldn't pay 25 cents for this thing.

It's not great but it does well with a very light weight camera

I actually use this at the shooting range for my Caldwell Brass Catcher. It does the job but I wish it were stronger as I put weight on it for the brass and in a year it breaks. For the cost it is acceptable. If I were to use it for a camera, it would have to be a small camera, not a full SLR or DSLR, that's too heavy.
