A creative young girl breathes new life into a cardboard box in this “gleeful little story of imaginative play” for fans of Harriet the Spy and Harold and the Purple Crayon ( School Library Journal ) The day the refrigerator arrives in its large brown carton, Christina Katerina and her mother are both excited, but for very different reasons. Christina quickly claims the box, where she creates a castle, a clubhouse, and other fantastic playthings with her sometimes-friend and neighbor, Fats Watson. Together, they embark on countless hours of adventure, swearing their undying friendship—and waging furious battles, too! “One of the classic characters of children’s literature,” the spunky and playful Christina Katerina has inspired young readers to embrace their creativity since 1971 ( Kirkus Reviews ). A staple in classrooms and libraries, this classic children’s book is a timeless ode to the power of a child’s imagination—and to the beauty that can be found in even the most ordinary of objects. Inspires imagination
A favorite story of mine as a little girl! I love the imagination she uses as she takes a huge refrigerator box, and continually changes what it is. My kids always want to find a huge box and play after reading this story!

A beautiful funny store of the simplicty of childhood
I read this book to my children when they were about 5. We laughed everytime we read it and we all loved the wonderful illustrations. I was recently packing my now teenage childrens rooms and we started talking about the book, since we had cardboard boxes everywhere. Since we couldnt find the book we had when they were little, we looked on Amazon and were able to purchase 2 of them. Now they both have this wonderful book to take with them into adulthood and share with their chldren in the future. I quess that's how much we loved it. Great read !!!!

Loved it when I was a kid!!
Eventhough this book is in black and white without the fancy graphics of today's new books, it has a timeless quality about it. I was so excited to get it and loved reading it to my 4 year old son who loves to construct rocket ships and race cars, forts, tents and hideaways. His dad will put together boxes we get from shopping at Costco. He uses duct tape and staples and we will use markers to decorate... so much fun!!! As I would read the book, my son would occasionally not his head and say uh-hmmmm (instead of peppering me with a million questions about the story, like he usually does). It was like he knew exactly what Christina was thinking and he was making mental notes on what he would do. This book fits in perfectly in our preschool lessons when we teach about creativity and imagination.

Great Read to Inspire the Imagination
I have been looking for this book for a long time. I had this book in hard back when I was a little girl and it was my favorite book. I wanted to share the book with my 6 year old daughter who loves to convert cardboard boxes in to space ships and forts. This book truly inspires a child's imagination and is a good story to snuggle up and read together.

The book is great. Shipping could be better.
The book is new and I already knew I liked it. It came in the cheap Amazon bubble wrapped envelope which allowed it to be bent in transit. Should’ve used better shipping materials so that it came in better condition. Not a big deal, but still.

I especially appreciated the wonderful, expressive illustrations which were so life-like
Was so thrilled to find this on Amazon--this book brings back such fond memories. I remember getting some ideas and inspiration from this book as a child and read it over and over again. I especially appreciated the wonderful, expressive illustrations which were so life-like. Like Christina Katerina, whenever I saw a giant cardboard box, all I saw were possibilities that were limited only by my imagination--now I want to share the wonder of this story with my little nieces!
