I have an old AMD Athlon XP 3200+ (Pentium 4 equiv.) based build running Ubuntu 12.10. Would you suggest the 350 or 400 W?

If you have on a built in (on the motherboard) video card- 350 watt is fine. If you have a external gamer video card, then a bigger power supply you will need. These Antec power supplies are a VERY good choice.

Does this power supply work as a replacement for an hp pavilion elite (hpe-500f) desktop tower?

I would think so. I have an HPE-360 (pretty sure) and it works fine. If you want to be absolutely certain call Antec and ask their people.

does this have an CPU 4+4 Pin connector?

I do not know if it has the 4+4 Pin connector but I replaced the power supply on an XT computer and its working ever since Regards Clement

I just bought a EVGA GeForce GTX 660 and my 480w power supply is inadquaete. Would this power supply work for this card?

The BP550+ should be excellent for your GTX660, providing that your entire system is a moderate build: moderate to no over clocking with around 120w or less CPU TDP and stable power. (living in an area with power probs will also kill your system - heh.)
