New Balance Mens 574 V1 Lace-up

The color was great, even better than shown, and the quality was exactly what I've come to expect from New Balance; the sizing and width were spot-on, and my husband found them comfortable and wearable right out of the box. It's often tough to find wide sneakers that are also fun and attractive; these were the perfect solution.

What is an understated flourish? What is a subtle extreme? The combination of classical, modest patterns and vibrant, exciting color in this shoe will impress even the most sartorially ambivalent observer. No person shod in these sneakers can be accused of being too stodgy, too avant garde, too anything. Confound and impress both your compatriots and detractors simultaneously. Stand on the precipice of an existential singularity. At your feet every counteracting idea and physical force in the universe intersect, mingle, reconstitute and disperse as entirely novel creations. Not good with tight jeans.

Edit for 2016 - I wrote this review in 2013 when I bought these shoes. Worn them casually for 2 years and 3 months - 27 months. I didn't even realize... Anyway - obviously great shoe and they did end up stretching to fit. As I said in 2013 - now looking for new ones. I like the color - I've bought the shoes in store before which is why i purchased online. It seems their wide selection is very limited to non-existent (or at least not in stock at the moment.) Since my shoes were ripped through I bought these for the haste factor and will just stretch them out as I've done before. Will probably get another pair when these wear out - hopefully by then there'll be wides available.

I purchased these about a year an a half ago and they've really held up well. I wear them probably 3-4 days a week over this period and they've wore really well. Still have loads of tread, still super comfortable. The material over the toe is pretty thick, so these are fine when riding my motorcycle too. I plan on buying again in another year or so.

Only three stars since they were too small and I couldn't wear them, and of course they are not available in the next size up. They do look nice! These fit like they were a full size too small; I wear a 15D. When I compared them to another New Balance shoe, though a different model, they were 3/4" shorter overall. I contacted New Balance via their live chat and asked about it and was told there will be some variation in size, though internal dimensions on the shoes should be pretty similar. I took the soles out of the different shoes to compare and they were identical, however the soles from the new shoes were curved and squished like they didn't fit in the shoe properly. Not sure what the issue actually is here, but I am ordering a size 16D in a 574 of a different design and will see how it compares.

The 574's are very comfortable. However, the inner cushion tends to settle after a week or two. In my case that cases the shows to feel oversized. So what I do is buy 1/2 smaller. I normally wear 11.5, but I buy New Balance shoes that are size 11 and that has worked out for me great. The size 11 are never too tight, just extra snug. Once the cushion settles they simple fit snug and right.

These are excellent shoes; I wear them almost every day for serious walking, strolling about town and just hanging out at home. They are my second pair of New Balance 574s -- the first pair is still going strong after several years of use. So, I'd say, buy them with confidence, with one caveat... I find that New Balance sizes run a little small, so I get a half size larger. It works for me, but your mileage may vary. Maybe it would be worthwhile to buy your first pair at a local shoe store to determine your size, then order subsequent pairs online. That's what I do, and the sizes haven't varied among New Balance styles.

*I should have read the review below mine. My shoe must have been mislabeled as well. * I usually buy the 990's but I wanted to try a more stylish shoe. I wear a 14 2E and I ordered a 14 2E in the 574's. The shoes were a little snug at first but thought they would stretch out. Unfortunately, I've worn the shoes the past 4 days and I can't wait to take them off at the end of each day. Apparently 2E isn't the same for all of New Balance's shoes. When I put them up to my 990's you can tell they're not 2E. Maybe they were mislabeled? Anyway, I'm willing to give them another try with a 4E, but just disappointed that I have a pair of shoes I can't wear. I gave 3 stars because the shoes are stylish and comfortable on the heel and arch, just too narrow at the ball of the foot. Included some photos to compare with my 990's. You can clearly see that 574 2E's are not as wide 990 2E's. *I should have read the review below mine. Mine must have been mislabeled as well.

Falsche Farbe

Der Schuh trägt sich unheimlich gut - ist mein erster NB aber es hat sich gelohnt - will keine anderen Sneaker mehr anziehen. Der nächste kommt mit Sicherheit bald

Very comfortable and a classic look. Was worried about the size being wrong but they fit very well.
