This is a heavy duty compass. Very durable. Bought for husband’s wood working shop but think I’m going to need one for my sewing room as well!

This ain't your grade school compass
When I think of a compass for drawing circles, I picture the one I had in grade school that was floppy. This is not that. This is the same principle but a much sturdier design. In particular, the radius adjustment doesn't move just by pushing or pulling on it; there is a thumbscrew for adjusting it. This worked well on a couple of cornhole boards that I built with my son. For the hole in the board, I didn't end up using this; instead I used a 6" hole saw. But I did use this to draw curves on the top of the legs, so that we could then cut them with a jigsaw. It did a nice job drawing those curves. I like that I only had to set the radius once. I did the second cornhole board weeks after the first one and the compass was still set for the same radius and ready to be used again without any adjustment. Pretty cool. You can use either a pencil or the built-in scribe (sharp needle for scratching a groove into the wood). I tried the scribe, but I preferred using a pencil, because of lower friction.

Subpar adjustment
Leg binds and sticks when adjusting to larger radius. Does not have a speed nut style adjustment as indicated by the AI Q&A.. .

Very sturdy when open wide
I bought this for large circles on my leather working. It is very sturdy even when opened very wide. Very happy I went with this item. Pretty large hole to chose a pencil or pen to put in. 5 stars all the way and highly recommend.

Good and not expensive
Good sharp points! Pencils fit nicely too. Points are good enough for direct scribing aluminium or wood, but I think they would get blunt quick on steel. My carbide tip scriber fits the pencil holder though :)
