I wanted a narrower keyboard for more mouse room and don't need a number pad; all fine so far. There are written instructions for changing the lighting and once you do you realize that the mode keys are marked with their functions even if the icons are a bit cryptic. All the keys work. The volume control buttons work when combined with the "Fn" button; I did not try other multimedia functions.Neutral - The slightly irregular layout around the enter key is easily accommodated. As a programmer, I use the displaced keys frequently but I can handle it. Lacking as a gaming keyboard, there is no registration bump on the "S" key (though the standard ones on "F" and "J" are present. Gouge it with a knife or straight razor and you are all set.Poor - No actual gaming keyboard features. Lacking are keyboard macros and ability to chose/highlight individual keys. Worse - The keyboard is invisible when it's not lit. The keys are black on black and and it's wake-up behavior is not good. You need to press a key to turn on the lights. You can't tell other than by memory what key you are pressing and it is very important because whatever keys you press, it will be sent to the computer! Moving the mouse does not wake up the keyboard, only pressing a key on it does. Okay, I know where the shift key is and that's usualy safe but I've used systems where a key-press wakes things up and the press is not sent as a keystroke. That's the better way.Horrible - The illumination of the keys is very uneven. They are fairly bright in the alphabet region but get dimmer to the left and right. Much worse toward the top. The shift functions of the number keys and the the entire row of functions keys are unreadable unless you move your head directly over the keyboard. The overall lack of illumination of the keyboard makes the color changing tricks worthless as only the brightest colors. green then blue, have a chance of being usable.Bottom line: The keyboard is painful (on the eyes) if you, like me, need to glance at it every now and then to know where special keys are. Because of the inability to read all the keys, this keyboard is NOT RECOMMENDED. Ironically, if the (inadequate) gaming pretense and lighting were dropped then this would be a very good value as an ordinary keyboard.Hope that helps,- e7 ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very nice *by L***E on Reviewed in the United States on September 19, 2019* I'm very pleased with this purchase. The keyboard is functional, a little more compact in size since its design cuts away the number pad to the right which suits me. The keys are comfortable, the characters will not wear off or fade since they are clear so the lights can come through and that is the biggest and best thing, the lights. It is so pretty and there are so many variations on speed and theme, I love it. The reason I gave 4 stars and not 5 is that the keys are a little clacky, if you use the 'feet' to angle the keyboard up a little then the clack is much louder, lay it flat and its not as bad. I suppose the keyboard I had been using was quieter and so I really noticed the louder clack on these keys but I have since gotten used to it and its by no means a deal breaker. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Feels and sounds like a proper keyboard for like, you know, typing and stuff *by J***R on Reviewed in the United States on January 20, 2020* Having been using a wireless keyboard with a built in touchpad for the last few years, it sure feels great to be typing on this colorful new unit! The wireless thing is great for web surfing and limited typing, but as I am about to start writing my first best seller, I decided to invest in something more suitable for extended use. So far - it really does feel nice! It's plug and play, with simple clear instructions for fooling around with the lighting. Which of course I spent the first hour or so doing. I would caution that the lighting is NOT bright enough to fully rely on for easily seeing the keys in all lighting conditions. So if you're only looking for the brightest (rather than cheapest and most bang for the buck) option then I suggest looking elsewhere. Other than that (for me) very minor issue, this is a great deal and if it lasts a couple of years at least then I'll be satisfied. If it breaks within the next couple of weeks I'll probably return here to whine about it, but otherwise you're on your own from here.Summary: Very nice feeling budget keyboard with quite a loud click and pretty colors to be distracted by. Compact size great for my need (using on my lap sitting on my sofa writing my brilliant book while listening to the new Magnum album) 9.5/10, 5/5, great deal.
