It stated that they were used; however, they appeared brand new, no blemishes or scuffs, and came in original box. They are made of polyurethane to appear as leather. The style is typical for beginner tap and appeared to be well made along the seems. The taps were secure on base. Prior research on this shoe style stated to order a size larger. I wear a 9; these were 9.5 and the fit was still extremely snug (with or without footies). Instead of waiting to see if they would give or stretch a little (as real leather would have), I returned. It's my assumption that the same think happened to the last person who returned them. I normally wear a 9.5 or 10 in dress shoes & 10.5 in athletic shoes. I probably should have gone up to a sz 11, but I'm hoping they will give a little. My grand-daughter normally wears a women's 8.5, I ordered a 10. They fit perfect, the quality was much better than the others that I had order and the price was fantastic. They have a nice heavy tap in the front and back.
