Basic But Easy To Use & Cooks Evenly, Waffles Release Easily, PTFE & PFOA Free Ceramic NonStick
I initially hesitated to buy this Oster Belgian Wafflemaker because the price is so low (I paid $19.99) that it made me wonder if it could be decent. But I went for it as I wanted nonstick ceramic that’s PTFE and PFOA free, and I also wanted a compact unit as I wasn’t sure how often I’d make waffles. The operation is quite basic, but this Oster does a great job making waffles that cook and brown evenly (see photo) and also release easily from the ceramic plates. I’ve been using a Lehi Belgian waffle mix that’s super simple and convenient as all I need to add is water. It takes about 4-5 minutes to cook each 4 section waffle. The Oster turns on simply by plugging it in, and it has a manual dial to select the color. There’s no automatic shut off, so I just set a timer. I use something silicone or wood (e.g., silicone tongs, toothpicks or even chopsticks) to remove the waffles so I don’t scratch the ceramic surface. This had no funky smell even on the first use. This unit has a short cord (like all small appliances), and the plates aren’t removable for cleaning. But cleaning is easy. Before use, I cleaned the plates with a soapy washcloth, and since then I just wipe the plates clean with a damp paper towel or cloth. I like to freeze any extra waffles and simply heat them in the toaster. This Oster isn’t fancy, but it makes really good waffles and exceeds my expectations for the $19.99 price. It would be a great gift along with a box of waffle mix and syrup. Recommended. 5 stars.

UPDATE: GET ONE - NOW
UPDATE: OK, this is the third month I've had this appliance, and I have absolutely no complaints. I love this waffle maker. It's not heavy, so it doesn't hurt to lift it. It cleans so easily it's light years ahead of the nonstick monsters. I've had only one burn when I wasn't paying attention, my fault. The nicest advantage is how fast it cooks a waffle. Set at the highest browning selection gets the waffle done in roughly a minute, but as another reviewer stated, an extra 30 seconds or so gets it crispy. I've been making large batches of nut and fruit waffles and freezing them, so serving is just a toaster away. Good little Oster. :-) ******************************** I bought this unit to replace my 4yo cuisinart that died young. Well, not dead, but close. The weight of the lid broke the plastic hinge, making it a serious burn hazard. And it stunk to high heaven from the non-stick plastic coating. When I saw the very reasonable price for this Oster, I gave in, even though the low price gave me pause, ya know? My trepidation, however, was wasted energy. It's an excellent appliance and a great buy. i think, however, that the low price was to test the market, I and advise buying soon if you really want one. I love this waffle maker. The ceramic plates bake great waffles, with a darkness setting to please everybody, from fluffy to crispy. The machine has no awful smell coming out of it, as far as I can tell, none at all. It can be used with or without oiling, as long as there is some oil in your recipe. I've had no sticking yet. And I've been using it, every day, for three weeks now. Every day. Flavors don't remain on the plates from previous recipes. I've made the following with no issues and no sticking: 1. Cornmeal waffles with Salsa in the batter 2. Italian waffles with tomatoes, pesto and cheese in the batter 3. Granola waffles with dried fruit and nuts (no scorched raisins) 4. Oat Flour waffles with coconut (Oat flour worked fine with NO added gluten flour) 5. Felafel Waffles (garbanzos and chopped garlic, onion, tomatoes and serious spices) 6. Apple Cranbery Waffles with Saigon cinnamon That's a lot of flavors. I wipe the plates down with a paper towel after each use, and detect no food odors left behind. The ceramic coating was a really good idea. If you are a waffle lover, but don't want to invest in a $100 model, this is the unit you need. If I could give this baby 10 stars, I would. This is the best waffle maker I've ever owned, bar none.

Nice little waffle maker
The ceramic non stick surface really makes the difference. Two things that kept me from giving it 5 stars, 1. once it's plugged in, it's ON, no on/off switch. 2. Temperature control is a little random, so it's trial and error in finding the right spot for how you like your waffles. Also keep in mind this is a Belgian style so the waffles are softer (not super crisp). Otherwise it's a solid little waffler, nice to look at, works well, easy clean and a great price.

Compact, attractive, easy to use, easy to clean, easy to store.
Disclaimer: If you are a compulsive multi-tasker, this model isn't for you. There's no on-off switch and no auto-off. This feature is great for the ability to continue crisping. It is not so great if you are likely to walk off and accidentally forget the thing for six hours. Fortunately, the unit cycles off and on according to the set temperature. Therefore, it probably won't overheat, but you could still end up with a waffle-shaped rock. Ultimately, as the instructions say, don't leave the unit unattended while it's turned on. All of that notwithstanding, I love this little waffle maker! I bought it for my husband after our other one fell off the top of the fridge (a bad storage location, in retrospect). This new one is compact and so easy to store. Stand it up and tuck it away. With the smaller footprint and profile, we are able to put it safely in a cabinet. It's not a wrestling match getting it out and putting it away. Now if I want a fresh waffle, I can just go for it. No groaning or indecision. Just grab, mix, pour, wait-a-few, and chow down. I also like the fact that you can leave the waffles in longer to get them crispier and browner (emphasis on the "-er"; If you like them really crispy, you'll still have to put them in the toaster oven after). Additionally, the handles make for easy maneuvering and the non-stick is truly non-stick. The serving size is perfect for me, but because the grid is sectioned, it's easy to cut a finished waffle into wedges if I want more or less. Clean-up is basically a once-over with a paper towel. And this wasn't really a deciding factor, but now that I have it, I must say that I think this unit is super attractive. It's sleek, and it doesn't "showcase" all that endless grime that the white appliances do. Not to mention that, well, ya know . . . it's shiny :)

Really Nice waffle maker
I've had this waffle maker for about a month and have made waffles every Sunday since then. I'm into easy so I used Krusteaz Whole Wheat Honey pancake mix (just add water). I heat the maker until the green light came on then sprayed a little cooking spray on the hot plates, put about 2/3 cup of batter in then close and wait about 5 minutes when the steam stops. First time I set temp in the middle and the waffles were cooked but not crispy as others have noted. Waffles tasted fine. No run over with the batter. Next time I increased the heat to about 3/4 of the max. Still not crispy but good tasting regardless. Did max heat the next week. A little darker but not crispy. I think it might be the batter. Was out of Krusteaz today so made Bisquick waffles according to box directions. Used max temp setting and they almost became crispy. They tasted fine and made 4 waffles, so I froze 2 of them. Overall I am very pleased with the purchase. It's easy to clean--just wipe grids with a paper towel, the outside too. Steam gathers on the lift handle and cooking spray gathers at the back hinge but wipes clean with paper towel. Great for the price!

Thoughtful and winning design-a Safe Choice!
Needs: Compact, true Belgian waffle size, use for two people, non-stick qualities are not the material I grew up with, to-the-point usage (no fussing about), handsome design. After looking at literally a hundred or so Belgian waffles, I received a REAL education of the quirks and styles offered today. YIKES! The really $$$ ones had a non-stick coating that I find unacceptable. Others were designed far more extravagantly than I needed, or made more than needed. This waffle iron heated up beautifully, worked beautifully, and made, guess what, a REAL Belgian waffle! User-friendly, it goes to work without a lot of intervention, although you do need to keep an eye on it as it cooks fairly quickly. The ceramic coating is wonderful-just used a bit of oil as per directions, and there was nothing to clean up. Only question is that the hinge seems a bit fragile, but then, I am not throwing it about...All in all, I am in disbelief that this waffle iron costs so little.

Wish it would get hotter and keep itself closed
This is a very simple waffle maker. And it's quite compact. For our infrequent waffle making (I've only used it 3 or 4 times in the last 2 months) it is a decent fit for our needs, especially the size. Small and light. However, when making Liege waffles with Pearl sugar, it doesn't seem to have enough power (even on "Max" setting) to quickly cook the outside to a crispy consistency and caramelize the sugar while not drying out the center of the waffle. You can of course simply leave it on longer to get the outside crispy and caramelized but then it runs the risk of drying out the inside. Best I can do it let it pre-heat on 'Max' temp and get nice and hot and also make sure the Liege dough is fully at room temp (and not any colder). It mostly works but does seem underpowered a bit to me. Maybe a compromise for having the compact form factor. Works better for regular (American style) batter-based waffles than dough-based ones in my experience. Another thing I don't like about it is that the two halves cannot lock together. So you close the two halves tightly initially, but then as the waffle rises, it will separate the two halves. I'd like a "snap" to at least have the option to keep it closed. But, alas, if you want to keep it closed, you will have to either hold it shut for several minutes or come up with your own clamp or apparatus to keep it closed. On the flip side, it does clean up extremely easily with a wipe of a damp paper towel as the non stick surface is very smooth. A few months in, no issues with flaking of the ceramic coating. But time will tell how well it holds up. I'm moderately happy with it but I've definitely used much better and more versatile waffle makers. It's OK.

A very good, reasonably priced waffle maker
The Oster Duraceramic Belgian Waffle Maker made an excellent impression on first use. Using a major brand waffle mix and both Oster and the mix's directions resulted in two large waffles that looked and tasted great. Texture was a bit soft and cake like the first time out. On second use and with slight adjustment of the amount of water and mixing, plus increased temperature on the waffle maker the texture was just right. The appliance is surprisingly compact and light. It reaches operating temperature reasonably fast and maintains the heat setting by going on and off. Separate lights indicate when the waffle maker is on and when its heat element is at operating temperature. Cooking time is about four to five minutes per waffle. The Oster doesn't have an automatic timer. Instead, you watch it closely at four minutes for steam to stop coming out. Then, or soon after, you can raise the top to see if your waffle is done to your taste. Making waffles for more than two, you'll need to start early, place each waffle on a cooling rack for a couple of minutes and then onto a plate in a warm oven. One of these waffles is probably enough for most adults, especially if served with other food. If I were to make waffles for more than two people regularly, I would want to have two of these waffle makers. Directions mention that it's common to have batter ooze out during cooking. So far, that's been minimal. The Oster Waffle Maker cleans up quickly and easily inside and out. For its design, build quality, good operation, helpful directions and reasonable price, the Oster CKSTWF1502-ECO DuraCeramic Belgian Waffle Maker earns five stars.

Excellent product!!!
This is a fantastic product. Cooks waffles evenly and quickly. Good chrome finish body with a convenient heat dial to control crispiness. Have been using it for a few months now .... could not be happier. Simply superb!! One word about the converter .... mine did come with a voltage converter (plug type rated 1600W). This came as a pleasant surprise 'cause I understood that the converter was not included. So folks, please check the package before purchasing a converter.

Great Waffles
For me, finding a ceramic plate waffle maker was the primary feature. I never owned an Oster product before. Ceramic Coating and non-stick: 10/10 Nothing sticks ( I do use a bit of brushed cooking oil. I don't understand why some people expect a non-stick surface to just keep working at high heat without any application of cooking oil before they start using it...). Even Heat: 7/10 Not a deal breaker for me. The far outer 10% corners of my waffles don't come out the same browining as the middle section. I don't want super brown and burnt waffles anyway. Does it good enough for me. Will update this review in a few months after I had more heavy use of it. So far, I would buy this again, and waffles come out just right.
