I've had to downgrade my rating from 5 stars to 2. It was a great masher for the 3 months that it worked, but on Easter Sunday the handle separated from the masher part. The two parts slip back together again but don't stay. It seems like another one of those items that looks great & sturdy, but not constructed with the same quality in mind. Item is NOT DURABLE and comes with a SHORT LIFESPAN. Not a great value even as an add-on purchase which it was for me.Original Post 1/20/17 (5 Stars):Mashed potatoes beg to be mashed the old fashioned way, by hand. Let’s face it, it’s simply sacrilege to use a mixer, food processor, food mill or ricer to make mashed potatoes, plus you run the risk of over working your buds.Originally, I had the one arm masher (one arm connected to the mash plate) which I got rid of promptly due to the awkwardness of mashing. Next up was the “S” style which was great but I wanted something different, more comfortable to use, and required a little less effort to obtain my desired consistency. For an add-on item the Precision Kitchenware definitely fits the bill. It’s actually heavy duty and solidly built compared to my old “S” masher. The metal is thick and sturdy with a rubber/silicon grip which is rather comfortable for the handle (not that hard plastic I had before), and the plate holes are unique as they are oval shaped. So far, I have tested this baby on potatoes, cauliflower, and yams for giggles and find the amount of mash-throughs appear less than with my older lighter “S” masher. Overall, for the value this is a great sturdy masher which promises to handle any abuse you can put it through, is quick and easy to clean, and guarantees to deliver years of fluffy billowy clouds of heavenly mashed potatoes to your menu! Can you tell? I love this masher & I love mashed potatoes!
